Hi everyone!
I'm a fairly new member and have been enjoying looking at everyone's "home away from home." It is really cool to see how garages can be so different in different parts of the globe. I decided to share my never ending project for you all to enjoy.

The building is 40'x56'. One half has 12' walls w/ scissor trusses, the other half is 10' walls w/ attic trusses. The basic game plan is to finish the 12' side, including two post above ground lift. The 10' side will be mainly unfinished and used primarily for storage of toys and equipment.
It consists of a shingled roof to match the house and other outbuilding, steel siding and insulated garage doors.

I used Punch Home Design Platinum software for the prints to submit for quotes, permits, variances, etc. The amount of hours spent playing around with building layouts and details is staggering! :eyecrazy:

Just a preview of the building...

Here are some pics of excavation and construction.
I cleared the pad with my own equipment, borrowed the skid loader for the post holes, and hired Narvon Builders for construction...

This point in the project was late summer 2007. I backfilled around the finished structure and all was progressing nicely!
It was only a few days later and my wife informed me that we should switch gears and start on a nursery! :bounce:
When things settled down a bit, it was time to get back at it. I laid conduits for water, electric, and another for phone, cat5, etc.
I used the building for a few years with a dirt floor just for covered storage. Now I'm getting into the good stuff!!!

Spring forward to the present...
6" thick concrete on the taller half of the building to accommodate anchors for the future two post lift. The key to all of this is always planning ahead for things that are not planned! Prior to concrete I installed floor drains, conduit for a water line, and ran plumbing for waste water.

The nice thing about the time lapse in finishing the interior is that I was able to monitor the building. I found that during heavy blowing rain, the water will sneak in between the window flange and the metal siding. I also found that during the spring thaw and April showers, the water coming from the hill behind the building will surface and run inside following the layer of virgin soil under the backfill. To fix that I installed a footer drain behind the building and below frost line and filled it with stone. Problem solved.

That brings me to insulation, which I covered in another post...
