I've boosted the title of this thread from another board I frequent (advrider) . . .

WHile I truely admire many of the garages and shops on this board, and the people that make them happen, I'm thinkin there are members of vcarying means here -- not everyone can afford vintage Snap-On tools to tune-up their rides, and other prefer to spend the dollars on home-built solutions to difficult problems . . . . .

Here's a couple of Pennytech Ideas from the Entropy Lab (my garage) --

Problem -- I'm dis-assembling my wife's 31 Ford Model A for paint -- my 20 X 30 building won't hold a disassembled car (every notice how much more room a car takes in pieces compared to when it's whole?), and the motorcycles and other projects that are on-going . . . . I wanted to be able to move the hulf around as I woprked on it, in all four directions ... after seeing the prices asked for dollies, I came up with thie brainstorm . . . .

Moving dollies are inexpensive, readily available, and usable for other projects once the car is back together . . . .

Here's a shot of the angle-iron frame I threw together to support the jackstnd

Still got the wheels on the car (or, at least, on one end)?

Lastly, to illustrate an idea I shared on another thread here, what do you do with the attachments for your shop vac? My solution ofr the Fein that lives in the Entropy Lab (picked due to it's very low sound level while operating) is an old carpenter's apron . . . . .

I'm sure many of you have similar ideas to share . . . .let's see 'em!

I have 2 car dollies I got from HF and 2 of their small furniture dollies the ones they usually have for $9.99 each . The furniture dollies actually work better than the damn car dollies and will sit under most tires nicely . I will have to see how well a jack stand sits on them as they are small enough to probably not need an extra frame on them.

I have a wooden trolley I made thats under my beta top box, heres a pic

I made it however for a very different purpose. I made it to move engines about at first, it did this with no issues for a while, then I sat cars on it, yes it actually took the weight of a complete car and I could move it single handedly.

The tool box on it now probably weighs at least 250kg's and its still holding up fine.

I have to do a lot of make shift stuff as I don't own a garage and have to do all work on the driveway, last night was a puegeot gearbox, tommorw looks like a renault master van clutch

Not being critical, but that doesn't look like angle iron, it looks more like angle bent pieces of heavy gauge sheet steel. Probably fine for a Model A but probably not for something heavier.

I think I would have put the angle down on the outside edges of the dolly then welded the cross pieces angle up and put a couple extra pieces to center the jack stand on the cross pieces. That looks like it could slide off the dolly.

Again, not being critical, just concerned for your safety.

Thanks Chammy, I just found out what I'm going to do with those four castors I was given on Sunday:thumbup:

...and the pallet I "found" a couple of weeks ago.

Stang -- you're no doubt right about the material -- it likely IS 1/8 sheet bent to 90 degrees -- but not by me ;-} (lack of criticality noted, wasn't assumed -- those who want to pile on simply to make themselves feel better are generally easily recognized ;-} )

You're also right about the weight, which is why I called out the car the rig is supporting -- Model As don't weight a great deal -- I don't believe I'd put much more weight on this rig than I have, and would likely fab something like you suggested if I did --

As it is, the rig's been in use for about 5 months (not much wrenching when I can ride, don't ya know) and has been pushed in all directions almost daily . . .
