Hey Guys,
When you ordered your expoxy from performance expoxy did they send you a shipping tracking number? Ordered mine and except for a email with order info I havn't heard anything from them. I am off the first part of next week and would like to get floor done.

Eddie, mine got here in 3 days. Not sure I even looked for any info, but I am sure rugerlady can give you an ETA. Have fun with that floor.

beancounter, I thought of yet another question!

I remember reading in this thread somewhere you rolled epoxy on the whole floor before you threw chips down. Do you know how long you have after its rolled out to throw chips?
In other words, by the time I am done with the last section, is the first section going to be too firm/dry to accept the chips? I would assume not since I am dealing with 600sqft.

Got my epoxy coat yesterday. Planning on doing it Monday. Temperatures are going to be 70f.
beancounter I have a question or two.
Was one coat of the epoxy enough or did you do two? Also did you use any primer on the floor?
Thanks Eddie

I know you didn't ask me, but I just did my floor a couple of weeks ago. It will depend on the temperature as far as how long you have to put the flakes down. I think you could probably do the whole thing and it would be fine to put the flakes down all at once. I put the flakes out after each 100-ish sf section I did - I would get it poured, spread out, and rolled, then go mix the next batch. While I was mixing the next batch, that gave it about the 10 minutes they recommend. Then I'd go back roll (90 degrees off), and distribute the flakes. The total time I'd leave that mixed batch sitting there was no more than a few minutes and I'd give it one last stir before pouring it.

It was also 40 degrees out when I did mine, so that made it take a lot longer to cure.

Hey guys,
Sorry yesterday and today been doing my bi-annual lawn duty. Fertilzer, lime, seed etc and on 5 acres its a pain.
I was worried at first about waiting until it was all down to do the chips, but it worked out really well. The flakes set into the epoxy deep. No issues with waiting for me.
Nathan, I would try to only mix two batches or have someone mix while you apply. The time is in mixing the batches. Amazing how fast you can apply the product.

Eddie, no primer for me. One coat of epoxy is plenty. I put it on really thick as well because I had plenty of material. Usually two coats of epoxy is used on solvent based or water based products. This is 100% solids and it applies a little different. Not sure how much you bought but divide in large sections half or maybe four sections. Then mix the amount of material you have for each and apply. Don't mess with taping off sections just general area is fine.
Good luck guys

Low and behold, another question.

When you mix multiple batches, do you use the same bucket or do you need a new bucket for each batch?

I used the same bucket to mix and pour, but used individual one quart paint cups to measure each of the part A and part B.

Nathan,
You can use one bucket for mixing each batch-no it will not harden up between each batch. I did buy one bucket for the base color and one for the clear coat. When I finished all the base color I just threw the roller, gloves, and measuring buckets in it. Same thing with the clear. I would get the 2.5 quart and 1 quart measuring buckets. You getting ready to apply?

Started my floor today. Got all epoxy coat down and chiped floor. Looks awsome. Will post pics up tomorrow when I have some time. Used the bucket they supplied to do all the mixing in. Did my 20 x 20 garage in 4 sections. Only problem has been bubbles in finish. Have been knocking them down with a leaf blower. Planning on clear coating tomorrow.

One other problem was the spiked shoes I got from Northern tools. I almost fell on my **** a couple of time. The spikes would bend easily. But I got throught it.
Eddie.

I forgot about the holiday coming up which is messing up my shipping. I am hoping to have everthing here for Monday and do it then. I ordered chips from the Norkad (spelling) people on ebay alond with 19.00 spike shoes which he tells me are much better than the 14.00 lawn areator shoes. He gave me a good deal on chips, 4.00 per pound for any mix I wanted. I callled rather than order online and the guy was very willing to work with me on shipping, price and everything.

Good deal Banker,
My spike shoes from them were the ones made for this job. Very good- but you need to adjust them and be ready when you start to epoxy. Took about 10 min for me to get all the straps set right. Don't want to be messing with that when epoxy is harding. Chip prices from them rule and they ship really quick. Sameday and I received in two days.

Eddie,
Yep, I noticed the shoes seemed to have much taller and skinner spikes than the shoes from Norkad, but even those I had a couple close calls. I think with me back rolling a few times almost to the point of it starting to get tacky helped with the bubbles. The clear should help cover any of them that were left. Look forward to some pics!

Yes, I will be applying Saturday. I have everything but epoxy and Rugerlady verified that will be showing up today.
I bought exactly what you described, 2 large buckets and the smaller measuring buckets and 2 rollers.
I've been prepping that floor since last Saturday. I'm ready to get this dang thing done!
You guys are scaring me with all this talk of bubbles!

Nathan, you should be set. Don't worry about bubbles, if you back roll it twice I think you will be fine.

Eddie,
I am not seeing the pics?

Eddie, That is SHARP sir.

I got the rest of my supplies. All I lack is MEK. My Lowe's only carries it in a gallon jug. Even though knowing my luck I will probably need a gallon, I am going to see what Home Depot has first.

AND Fedex Freight just called and told me they are on the way with my 3 pails of Hazmat corrosive. :)

Well, it's all finished. Put on the clear coat and it looks great. Clear coat went on faster due to knowing what to do. I put aluminum oxide in it. We have epoxy coated floors at work and they get really slick when wet. I kdon't want anyone falling in the garage. Here are acouple of finished pictures.

Yes I wore the spike shoes. You have to roll the floor acouple times. Plus I had to go back on it to put n the aluminum oxide. I did the floor in 2 parts and it worked out well. Also I was more use to the shoes this time and didn't have any issues with almost falling.

Banker,
Yep, the floor got some dirt on it. I have not got a chance to try the dust mop. Dang sure not going to mop ever 5 min. This is my basement garage (storage and maint center) main garage up stairs will be to keep nice and clean. Now just need a TV and fridge.
Ruddy,
I know it seems all I do is maintain all the gas toys. Everything has its own filters, plugs, oil etc. Changing blades or sharping chains seems to never end, but it is going to be much nicer having this finished area that is well lighted and easy to find stuff.

beancounter,
Garage looks great.
My question for everone is how long after you completed your floor till you parked on it? Mine is hard but when I parked my motorcycle on it last night it left a mark. I didn't have time this morning to fiqure out if the clear coat had come up or if it's just a surface mark. Rode to work and was running late.
Thanks Eddie.

Just went back and watched EC youtube vid. It says 18hrs for foot traffic and 24 hrs for heavy traffic. Full chemical resistance in 3 days.
