I have built a few pergolas. This time I went with three separate trellises. Two are 12 feet and one 24 feet. The curve on each 2x6 end, I patterned on a 1x6 and cut with a jigsaw. 16 curved cuts on the ends of the 12 footers and 20 cuts on the 24 footer. Top lattice is 2x2 and the posts are 6x6x12.

Nice. The trellises 'flow' together well. Will they eventually be covered in vines? I like that but it's a definite no-go for our pergola according to SWMBO.

I built one to serve as a trellis for climbing roses at our old house. Wasn’t really big enough to sit under, but still pretty nice.

My wife wanted one and after really thinking about it we put it on hold, we considered a Sunsetter awning as well..not sure what we will do.

Yup. Totally useless. No value whatsoever.

My wife wanted one except she said she wanted a roof on it and wanted it setting in the driveway. I told her that's a carport.

I get the aesthetic value of a Pergola but someone posted this on another forum which to me would be a heck of a lot more useful.

It's a kit that Costco Sells (on line or in the warehouse). 14 x 12 with an aluminum roof. Everything is pre-cut, pre-drilled and pre-finished. Made out of Cedar - all you have to do is put it together

I think is more of a pavilion style, we are with the open top. I did not plan on it but the wife has some sort of vines growing where we are building and i think that will work out well.

I am with the 'I would never intentionally sit under a canopy of weeds' people

Been there, done that. It makes a mess, anytime you want to sit down, you have to blow everything off or clean things up somehow
