I have been using box fans with a filter attached to the back for quite some time in my garage, but I was thinking of making it more of a permanent fixture. Has anyone done this, and can you show some pics?

I was thinking of mounting it on the ceiling, blowing upwards?

Yay...Nay???

Thanks

Make a nice frame for a standard-size filter out of C-channel and use weatherstripping to seal it against the box fan?
Are you trying to capture dust in general? I've seen people rig up box fans with window screens to **** up mosquitos.

Build a wooden box that has the box fan mounted to one end and filters on the other 5 sides of the box. This way you get better flow and can go 5 times as long before filters need cleaned or changed.

I have a wood frame attached to my garage wall at about 6 ft up. My fan faces downward, and the filter just lays on top. Works great
In my location Im trying to push heat down, If your trying to move cooler air up, I'd think about jkwilson's idea of a filter box towards the floor.

I used the J-channel method myself for some sawdust and smoke control. Neighbor has the J-channel and permanently mounted fan pointing up to catch some of their cig smoke. Just slide the filters out a replace. Catches a lot of ****, frankly.

Thanks for the replies.

I am trying to catch dust in general, as my garage is sort of a multipurpose room. I'm just sick of dust being everywhere, and all over everything.

My ceiling idea was basically a response to having a lack of floor space, so the box on wheels idea (while a great design) is out.
