Hey guys, My name is Chad, 25 yrs old, out of Greenville, SC. Ive been lurking on this site for over a year now, gathering up ideas, and slowly planning and designing and redesigning. I purchased my house about 4 years ago. A reward for my hard work for my 21st birthday. haha yess!!! It was built in 1952. Its a nice small brick house house about 1500sq ft on a decent size lot in a small neighborhood about 4 minutes driving time from downtown Greenville. The big selling point for me was actually the 20x24 detached garage in the backyard. Its not huge but perfect size for me.
Well anyhow, I ended up getting married a little over 3 years ago, I know at a young age but a beautiful bombshell with blonde hair and blue eyes that knows how to do a full tune up on a vehicle, and welded her own rollcage in her car.. yeah im not passing that up.. well needless to say my shop dreams were put to the side. According to the wife the house needed some renovations, So bascially ive been remodeling quite a bit to increase the lue of my house and appearance. Well Im almost done, atleast for now. Great news is, the Boss Gave me the green light to start building. So over the next 6 months ill be building.
Heres what I have to work with.. And my plans on what im going to do..
Sorry for the trees in the way, part of the job the wife has me doing. Landscaping.. Murdering Trees.. This is getting torn down and a new one up.
Its on a nice thick concrete slab
Side shot
Inside, sorry for so dark. Its rainy outside
The Plans
Im going with a barn color scheme for the outside
-10ft Walls
-Painted weather treated plywood for outside
-Barn Style Doors
-Epoxy Coated Floor (light gray, black chips)
-Drywall
-2 tone paint Dark gray bottom red and black stripe, gray top half
-welding wall
-steel air lines ran accross the entire shop.
-scissor trusses for added height
Storage
-Custom benches from wood used to make the old shop, im gonna recycle what i can. This wood is from the 50s real 2x4s and real strong and old looking haha
-Build my own cabinets which well be off the ground for cleaning purposes
-pegboard for all my extra random tools i have
-I have these little plastic storage containers that hang on the wall for screws and other miscellaneous tidbits.
-i finally can get me and my wifes 3 toolboxes out of our spare room.
-cant forget the mini fridge built into my cabinet area.
Electrical
- Wired for cable tv
- i have a 40" lcd samsung in my spare room ill be using and mounting on the wall
- Ive already tested the distance for my router, and my computer can pick up full internet no problem.
-several outlets including a 220 outlet for my miller welder
-recessed lighting
-recessed speakers for surround
Heat/Air
-I dont know for heat yet. I dont have the funds to run a gas line from the house. Ive been debating getting a Gas furnace and a 100 gallon propane tank maybe..
-For air ill probably just use a floor unit and put some vents in.. havent really thought that far
MISCELANEOUS
MAXJAX lift... thatll be far far future
my shop budget is $4000, may not seem like much of a budget. but the building is on a solid concrete slab thats in perfect condition, no cracks or major stains.
All labor will be done by My brother, Dad, father inlaw, bestfriend and I.
I have all the roofing material shingles, that black roofing paper, and nails and screws, electrical wiring and paint thanks to my brother who is a contractor. all the extra stuff hes saved up over the past couple years from jobs and what not.
I used to be a custom fabricator for some major car audio shops. the last one i managed shutdown. the owner told me to clear the shop and gave me all tools and material for no charge. So i have over $5k (was more but i sold a lot of it) in car audio material from speaker wire, connectors, abs plastic, fiberglass, resins, glues, screws, steel, carpeting, vinyl, all kinds of ****.
My father inlaw owns a steel company, so steel comes cheap if not free.. basically i take from the scrap area that they normally just melt back down or whatever they do with it..
and My best friend is Electrician, so hell be doing my wiring for beer..
Ill be posting over the next few months until its done.. with pictures.. i just need to get my ducks in a row first..
