Well since there is a thread on here right now about a "dishwasher permit" I guess you should probably check with your local town office. I would think that's one of those things that will vary from town to town & state to state as far as what's required. Here where I live I could probably build a 5 story parking garage without a permit of any kind and nobody would notice or care.
