Pet Door without cutting garage door?

I'm wanting to build a removable panel to install across my 9' garage door opening to allow installation of a dog door (big dog). I don't want to cut a hole in my garage door. Idea being this panel would rest on the floor and the garage door would be lowered down on on top of it to hold it in place.

Has anyone done this? Any pics of your design would be appreciated!

I see a problem doing that. How big is the dog? Will the opening be large enough to allow a person in? When you close the door the top of the door will be open because it is away from the top track curve. If you close the door one foot from the floor you will see what I mean.

Can you use another door to the outside?

Can't he just ask his helper to hit the door button?

I damn well wouldn't tell him no.

When I put a pet door in I put it right thru the wall inside a stud cavity. My problems came with the fact that my dog was still a puppy, and went thru three doors the final one being a 3/8" piece of lexan before I found a gavinized steel door from a dog igloo manufacturer. He decided not to chew on this one.

a friend of mine with a big dog cut the hole in the wall and installed th dog door there. he enclosed the area under the workbench which is under the window of the garage and then has a second door on the inside that he can choose to block off or not and this area acts as his dog house as well

Teach him how to open the door?

isn't there a doggie-door company that puts RFID tags in collars and only "unlocks" the door when dog is wearing the correct collar?

If not, there should be.

I don't know where he lives, but I understand he may be lookin for a new home. It seems he ate most of the theives and junkies in his present hood, and the owner can't afford to feed him any more.
Poor dog thinks his name is Aw Shyt now cause those were the last words he heard from a lot of his former snacks.

I would think that if the dog is that big, then there wouldn't be a problem with entry of thiefs. And, with a removable door like that, you could take it out when the dog isn't in there. I think its a great idea. Let us know how it works out.

Looks about right to me. Hey Hon, we gotta lay one of the kids off to pay for Phydeaux's dogdoor. Yes, it does need to be pneumatic, and I'll need a new compressor too. We can't have the poor mut standing in the rain waiting for a damn electric opener, and we sure wouldn't want Phydeaux being exposed to any shock potential. Either we outplace a kid or you don't get a new car. Yea, Ronnie would be my choice too, you tellin him or am I?

Here is one of the IR doors to limit which dog or animal comes in. I believe it can be set to in/out or in only or out only.

a former inlaw has a an automotive buisness with a large yard and he also raised cows so he had a bull to service the cows
when not on cow duty he was a 'watch bull' and a very effective one at that.

a couple of his employees were at a bar one night and overheard a couple of guys making a recomendation to their friends to never go over the fence at_______. that SOB has a bull in there.

why not just make the garage door RFID activated , and let the dog open and close the overhead? :)

Bad idea. If Mutsley wants to go for a ride he'll just shanghai some neighborhood cutie to do the driving and take off with the car/truck. You can only give a Canine-American so much power.

Even if you install a printer on the door opening system he'll claim some dog who looks like him borrowed his collar and dented the fender.
If you install CCTV with a recorder the mut will look at you all innocent and ask if you're going to believe him or your own lieing eyes.
