Has anyone seen a commercial pet gate available for a garage door span approximately 120 inches? Any home-made solutions out there?

Does it need to be a rugged/mechanical deterrent, or is the visual barrier enough?

It would have to be fairly effective. He's a very well behaved dog but when a racoon or squirrel or (been lucky so far) skunk is involved he's a man on a mission LOL.
Lol, mine went after something today and took half my lawn tools with him on the way!

Our dog likes to find turtles in the woods and bring them back to play with and chew on their shell...

Good looking pup.

There are a ton out there.

The best way is to train them. My boy just lays in the garage. Even when mama comes home, he waits until I say he can go.

I bet the safety netting from an old trampoline could be made into a nice barrier for free...

I've thought about doing this to keep my dogs in the garage with me. My 2 year old female could EASILY vault over nearly anything but she doesn't for whatever reason. If you put a show box on the floor in a doorway she is VERY reluctant to go through the door. Mostly won't consider it.

These are great. I didn't know these specific products existed. I usually leave my truck on a small run in the garage which isn't ideal. He'll like this solution much better.

That pic reminds me of my shepherd. Took a ton of training but once trained, didn’t need gates or doors. Just did what you said. Used to meet my daughter off the bus and walk her up our hill because that was her job.

The last house had a large wooden fence. Our mixed-lab could jump high enough to look over the top of it 6' in the air.

The new house has a metal iron fence that's only 4' tall. We were afraid she'd figure out she could jump over it.

When we moved into the house, we put her inside the fence, then stood outside the fence and called her to see if she'd jump it. She ran back and forth along the fence, but because she could see through it, she never bothered to jump. 4 years later and she still just stands at it and looks through it.

Granted, she's also 16 now and has no care to jump at all. Ever. We even have to pick her up to put her into the truck to take her places.

That's not my boy. Just a pic I snagged off the internet.
But I'm glad it brought you good memories.

This is my boy. He likes to sit in front of the garage on the lawn and watches the world go by. The picture where he is staring intently. He's watching two squirrels playing in the neighbor's yard. He knows he's not allowed over there.

Sadly, both doggo's have since gone to the big park in the sky.

I used 2x2 and screen scraps to make a doggo viewing area and shop ventilation on a 2-bay door. It slots right in the door channels and is hinged in the middle for breakdown and storage.

That's slick. I'd have to go chicken wire but I like it.

when I was working in the garage and the dog wanted to be out there too, I kept a 10' piece of parachute cord with a leash fitting on the end that I clipped onto her collar. Then she could walk around to her hearts content and not go further than 10'. Just have to be sure they can't jump or get caught and hang themselves. I never left her alone. Another option is a collar that picks up a transmission from a wire underground. They get shocked when they approach it.

wire fencing and two emt tubes zip tied on top and bottom is my current setup. Surprisingly effective but my dogs are on me like velcro so mostly for show

I used a 20' piece of galvanized wire livestock panel (maybe sheep panel) from Tractor Supply supported on two hooks placed on opposite sides of of the door.

If the dog is prone to jumping I could see them getting injured if they get hung on the top of that, depending on the height.
My wife called me one morning after leaving the house in horror.

A stray cat had jumped into the garbage can and got hung in the draw string on a garbage bag. It was hanging dead for world to see.
