One of my many Pet Peeves is filling my portable air tank. Who was the genius that decided a schrader valve was the way to fly to fill these things??? Standing there for far longer than my patience is willing has kicked in my lazy mode. So I've made 2 upgrades to my air tank. First is to put in a decent shutoff valve, but I digress. The one that saves time was to screw together 2 male air fittings. When the tank is empty - I snap in the male air fitting set to the tank's "normal" female fitting. Now I can snap on a regular air line on my tank and walk away while it fills up. Sure you need to use a little common sense and use a regulated air supply, but that's far less hassle to me than standing there fiddling with the original set up for what seems like forever!

So what are your pet peeves and how did you "fix" them???

I think the OP was looking for Garage related issues.

I was tired of the winch cord always being in the way in my stock car trailer. So I took a old drop light reel and wired it into the winch controller so that it was always out of the way.

Parts counter people who stop dead in the middle of helping me (when I'm standing right in front of them, at the counter) and answer the friggin' PHONE and begin looking up parts for the caller.

The last time this happened, I happened to be in a less tolerant mood than usual and when the butthead was finished, I politely asked him what the phone number was, he told me, I dialed it and the phone next to him started ringing.

I said "You gonna get that? Might be important..."

He wasn't sure what to do, basically he vapor-locked.

I think he got the message.

People that assume their standard of treatment for their tools/equipment is the same as yours. In other words, on the rare instance something is loaned out or borrowed by an individual...it comes back in less than stellar shape b/c of their lack of care and concern b/c that's how they treat all their stuff.

When I clean up the garage and my wife comes in behind me and puts her empty water bottles on my bench and toolbox. The recycling barrel is 5' away.

why do you have to drive a 105mph anyway, 10 miles over the speed limit is fine

counter parts help, I have order parts on the phone standing at the counter before. "hey dude, that part I ordered, hand it to the guy in front of you on the cell phone"

So do you IGNORE them or FIX them ? The point of this thread was FIXING them. The reason I started it was sometimes I see someone else's fix and think - why didn't I think of that? I guess I could choose the IGNORANCE IS BLISS method - naw who am I kidding! I see stuff that's messed up & I wanna fix it - for me - THAT is peace of mind.

YMMV

An old friend of mine used to say

YOU CANT HAVE PET PEEVES AND PEACE OF MIND.

How True

Lots of places do this.

It is strange that they value the phone in "customer" more than the person physically standing in the store.

Fast food places and drive thrus are the same. There are 10 people working the drive thru window to keep wait times at the 30 second mark, yet there is 1 person taking and filling orders at the counter.

Yep - I ain't ever had one of those work worth a **** on an air tank. Maybe it's the smooth nature of the fitting - they just don't grab on and stay there.

I can't tell you how many times I grabbed one of those air chucks only to have them not work or not work very well. Only thing they're good for is the adapter for filling the kids soccer balls. YMMV

You do know you can buy a clip on air chuck for them, right? :shocking:

People that don't know the difference between there, their and they're.

people who write long paragraphs on forums with no punctuation or capitalization leaving you wondering where the hell one sentence ends and another begins so you have to work too hard to try to figure out what the ******* is trying to say it makes it too much trouble to help them so i just skip it when i might have been able to help if they didnt make it so hard by writing that way

People who walk away from a home and mortgage just because they made a stupid loan agreement that they couldn't afford in the first place. They should all go to jail along with the jerks that gave them the loans they knew they couldn't afford.

Leave it as a warning to the next butthead.. along with a sign that says "The last person who broke into this garage didn't go to hospital, he went to the coroners dept"

Pet peeves? Most already hit on in this thread, but I'll drop another that I don't think I saw yet:

People who don't say 'Thank You' when appropriate.

I get this all the time where I work, but also occasionally in personal life too (holding a door open, etc.). Really used to get me worked up, but now I just blow it off and expect it to happen. I'm rarely disappointed, which is sad, but I'm not nearly as pissed off about it.

The worst part? I have a boss that once, when I bellyached about this, actually used it against me later. She even asked a coworker of mine, thinking I was just being impossible, "Is it really that important to say thank you?" Apparently the concept was lost on her too. Unreal. :wtf:

Oh Ya I for got one ...
People who DRIVE (at any speed) in the "PASSING" lane & wont move over to the DRIVING lane or lanes when someone going faster than them approaches them from behind trying to PASS them in the PASSING lane! All because they think that the speed their going is just right & no one else has the right to make up their mind what speed they want to go!
Didn't anyone teach them the "keep right except to pass" rule?
I guess this started with me after spending time posted in Europe & having access to autobahn. Seeing how well "keep right except to pass" works when people actually follow it.

I have to agree, just because someone is doing 10 over, they are not entitled to drive in the passing lane. They also need to lose the superiority complex and quit dictating how fast anyone should drive.

PS. I rarely speed, once in a while it is somewhat necessary.

Well said Steve, that is the issue, it is a PASSING lane, not a cruise lane, move over even if your going over the posted limit. Driving on the autobahn spoiled me, no wonder we have so many cases of road rage here in the states.

People that ride my *** in any lane when I'm doing 10 over.

Just my $.02
I don't condone tailgaiting in any fashion, but 10 over is for the right thru lane, commonly called the slow lane. This is for 0-10mph over. The passing lane is just that, for passing. Should be 15mph+ over to use that lane. This seems to be an "unofficial" standard here in Michigan. It only takes a second to get out of the way and let a speeding car by, beside, you can jump on his six and have him run the gauntlet of police ahead of you.

10 over is more than plenty. Speed limits aren't suggestions. 10 over is speeding, but I do it just so I don't get ran over trying to drive anywhere.

I agree! Store clerks for example. Around here when you pay a cashier for your purchase and say "thank you" a common response from them is "no problem". NO PROBLEM? Why would there be a PROBLEM? They have something to sell ... you just bought it and they say "NO PROBLEM". I'm really glad they didn't have to go out of their way to sell me something. A lot of times, before they get a chance to say anything I just say "you're welcome" when I buy something. It confuses the hell out of most cashiers.
