I use that lane for merging all the time. I wouldn't bother you though because I am never "sitting there". I'll be going 11 over and merge in front of you.

Yeah that wouldn't bother me at all. It's a lot better trying to miss the idiot speeding at me head on than the idiot stopped in the lane.

If I am in the fast lane going over the speed limit and there are cars in the right lanes going slower then I am then you'll be pissed following me. I don't move out of the way if I'll have to hit the brakes. :)

I do the same, and if your really being a D-bag back there, flashing your lights, honking your horn, pulling on to the left shoulder, when I could move over I won't to make my point.

If your going to drive like an A-Hole, (like what ever you have to do. is way more important than what I have to do.) I will treat you like one.

If I'm driving south for example and someone is using the LEFT TURN LANE as an acceleration lane to merge with south bound traffic I can usually deal with that. It's the people driving north and want to use the left turn lane (legally) that have the problem. You would be looking at the traffic behind you because you are trying to merge with them not at the poor ****** who may want to make a left turn. Look at the arrows painted on the pavement. Neither of them point to what you are doing.

And what point are you trying to make, exactly?
That you're acting like a punitive idiot on some kind of power trip?

Yes, the driver behind you may seem to be acting like an "A-Hole", but how can you have any way of knowing what that "A-Hole's" motivation is?
How do you know he/she isn't rushing someone to the ER?
How do you know he/she isn't trying to get to a loved one in trouble?
How do you know he/she isn't off-duty public safety being called to a scene?
You don't, simple as that.

As a user of public roads, it's neither your responsibility nor authority to "enforce" traffic laws as you see them.
That's law enforcement's responsibility, end of story.
Your only responsibility is to abide by traffic laws, regardless of what those around you may be doing.

While we're on the topic of driving etiquette. I get annoyed when when people dont let others merge - we'd all get going faster if we'd all just let folks in. That said - I'm also annoyed at people who try drive as far up as possible and then dive into line.

and since i saw it earlier in this thread...

When folks say and type "draws" (drawers). :lol_hitti

Not that I lose sleep over it or anything.

Your scenario could be correct, but most of the time I think not..

So how is my actions any different than what they are doing, Why is it OK to try and force someone into another lane?...
When I'm going over the posted limit, and passing cars that are going slower in the right lane, I will move over when the lane is clear, and I don''t have to slow down to do so. In till that happens, the me first attitude behind me can kick rocks..

Once again, it's not your job to interpret the situation, but to react to what you're presented with. And again, you have no way of knowing exactly what's going on in the other vehicle.

It's the passing lane; If you're being overtaken by someone else - regardless of their or your speed - you move to the right. There is no ambiguity about this. And of course, you should only make the move when the next lane is clear and it's safe to do so.

First, unless there are flashing lights on the vehicle, I have no responsibility to move out of their way if I have reason to be in that lane (slower traffic in right lane). I'm not saying I drive in the left lane to block traffic, but if I'm driving in that lane because of slower traffic to the right, I will not move over so some ******* can do 90. That is not my problem. You're examples are the reason we have police and EMS. They are qualified to be driving that fast with the proper equipment, not you. That is their responsibility, not yours.

Second, if you think my only responsibility is to abide traffic laws and hope the police see everything that goes on, you're nuts. Look up citizen traffic citation. Look up citizen's arrest. These are extreme examples, but so were yours. If I see you endangering people on the roads, I can and will make sure you get cited for it.

I can agree with this to an extent. If I can get over I will. However, if I am in that lane passing other drivers, I have just as much right to be in that lane as anyone else.

THIS is pretty much the point that I've been trying to make all along.
Yes, you absolutely have as much right to be in the passing lane as the next/last guy - if you're both passing vehicles to the right. But as soon as the right lane clears, and it's safe to do so, move over. The left lane is a passing lane, not a travel lane.

My primary reaction was to T.Handley's comment:

Annoying as the overtaker may seem to be, it's not within the lead driver's discretion to "make a point".

If the overtaking vehicle is in an emergency situation, then that makes the lead vehicle an obstruction and potential safety hazard.

However, if the overtaking driver really is being an A-Hole, well, don't you agree that it would be best to err on the side of caution and let the nitwit pass? This gets them the hell away from you as quickly as possible. Then, report their tag as a reckless/speeding driver to the highway patrol.

I gotcha. I think we agree, with slight differences maybe. Or maybe not.

I will move over gladly as long as it's safe to do so, but I'm not going to stress myself out about it or anything. If that person feels the need to do 90, it's their problem and their responsibility to adjust safely. I do agree, and I will always let them pass, get a plate number and report them.

Ok Here's another one: Long ago I swore off going to a particular parts store since they f'd up some axles and blamed me when it was clearly their fault. Fast forward about 10 years and there I find myself in THAT store (after trying EVERYWHERE ELSE first) and low and behold they actually have the parts I needed. To set the stage I walk in go past 2 counter guys and the owner (the guy who bent me over) is fiddling with a display. I walk to the back of the store and my parts are there hanging on the wall. By the time I get back to the counter (30-40 seconds) neither counter guy is there, but the owner is there still fiddling with his display. I patiently wait for about 5 minutes all the time gritting my teeth - the owner knowing full well I was there. Running thru my mind is "why are you here - you swore off these a-holes years ago" so after waiting a short eternity I walk back to teh store and hang up those parts. AS I make it past the counter and just get to the exit - the owner asks - "can I help you" I say - well no right now you cannot -however 10 minutes ago you could have" I leave. The moral of the story - be true to yourself - once a jack wagon....

Good for you, hope he understands why he was a ****.

I Agree for the most part, and maybe I should have been more clear with my statement, It is not my common practice, not to let people by, but only for the extreme tool sheds, Like I said before if you drive like an A-Hole around me I will treat you like one.

And if you agree with that or not makes no difference to me, to many people drive without do care and caution for others, and if we all just let them go un-checked they will never learn and change.

And yes I know I'm not law enforcement, and not trying to be.
All a person has to do is drive with a little respect for his fellow drivers, and there is not a problem.

That ALWAYS happens to me when I'm towing (usually with a very heavy load no doubt).

When towing I'm generally in the right lane doing the speed limit or 2-3 below in heavy traffic so I can safely stop. But here comes douche bag that MUST cut right in front and then slam on brakes. Sometimes I just wanna roll right on top of their civic.

I cant stand to be cut off when im towing, my father drove a tractor trailer for 39 years, says they "think" they are going to teach you a lesson by standing on the brakes in front of an 80,000 pound vehicle....seriously! who's going to be the one with the flat car if the truck cant get stopped?

A few months ago my wife and i were having a casual conversation, I will be honest I didn't check my blind spot before i started changing lanes, the guy in the right lane honked his horn and slowed down, i got back in the left lane and waived at him as a "my fault" gesture, we were on a toll road so as we approached the toll booth, I paid his toll which was almost 3.00 with a trailer, and asked the toll booth operator to pass along my apologies for cutting him off. I screwed up and I did what I thought was sufficient to right my wrong!

Merry CHRISTmas!!!

Don't get me started! It is quite easy, if you think about to get caught up in this. It isn't constructive but, to vent does have its merits. Here are a few of mine:

1. Loud talkers on cell phones (people seem to kick up their personal volume level ten fold when on the cell phone).

2. People who let their dogs run loose (*******, shitting, and sniffing, wherever, and whatever they come across), when there is a leash law.

3. Parents who let their children behave like wild animals in public places.

4. State employee supervisors, who allow their people to constantly call in sick, and or not perform their duties, without holding them accountable (we the taxpayers are the ones being robbed).

Oh my God... you nailed this one. I cannot stand these assholes. I lost count of how many times I see people nearly cause a wreck by doing this, since it dominoes and the people next to them swerve (if they're paying attention) and almost hit someone else themselves.

I wish I could just pull them out of their car and slap them shitless whenever I see them do this as well as whoever taught them to drive that way. Jesus Christ, one of the most annoying things on the road, bar none.

I have had this happen to me while hauling my fully loaded 3horse, I just lay on the horn to make it clear that I am not slamming on the brakes, I'd rather bounce your subcompact off the front bumper than risk having a horse go down in the trailer. Put one bozo into the weeds, he started to merge on to the freeway at 30mph in front of me on a downhill. Heard the horn and thought better of it, did a little shoulder gardening. :bounce:

You guys are going to love this one people that can't do the speed limit, if you do the speed limit and maintain proper spacing no one would need to pass and and so many of you would not have pet peeves LOL.

Opening the door for a woman and not receiving a thank-you in return.
Or better yet......walking around the car with a woman so that you can open the door for her and then at the last second- she bolts for the door and opens it herself because she is a woman and she is perfectly capable of doing things for herself. Thank you!! So the next time you just get in on your side of the car and keep her door locked. Then you start the car up and back up a few feet and make her walk to the door. And every time she gets close, you just keep backing up and continue to do this until she is sick and damned tired of it. Or better yet, just get in the car and drive off without her and then go around the block before you come back to pick her up. I have gone through all of this **** before. :bounce:

I hate this, and the ones how call and no one picks up..

Everything else has been covered except.

I cannot stand people who drive like, their the only one on the road and they stop and go down a whole road tring to find a place.
Im in the service buisness and if im tring to find a house ill drive past it and turn around or pull over alowing the people behind me to go.

All this falls behind common curtousy...and theres more and more less of that the older i get it seems.

I hate grocery shopping. And I hate people who do grocery shopping. And I hate the nitwits who take too long in the check out lines at the grocery store. You get into line to check out, you're back at the end and and the first thing, Oh ****!! the woman at the register just pulled out her purse and starts digging for her checkbook. Then comes all the accesories. The pen. The glasses. "So who do I make out the check to?" Krogers, lady!! It's on the sign, it's on the bags, it's on the cashier's blouse!! Now let's figure out all those coupons it took you five minutes to dig out of your purse. Oh and we don't want the cashier to forget to scan that Kroger Plus card now do we?...........Phew!! Finally!! Next!! OK. Here comes the next guy. Only three items, right? She scans them. Boop! Boop! Boop!! All right!! Good job! Then uh-oh. Oh ****!! You hear those magic words, "Uh, and a pack of cigarettes, please." ****!! Now we gotta go to the cage! Does anybody know where the keys are? By then I'm pretty ticked off. So I get up there and get the cashier almost in tears because I want to buy that little plastic thing that goes between the orders and she won't sell it to me. Then going to the car I pass some kid pushing a big string of carts and I scream at him, "Hey kid!! Somebody else might want one of those, you think? Then I get to the car and there's a cart in the side of my car. Geez, I hate that place!

The other day, my wife and I went to the grocery store. She went in alone, because I also hate it. While I'm sitting in the car with it running some stupid ***** pushes her cart right in front of ours and leaves it there, right up against the bumper and on the other side of the goddamn return rack. I lay on the horn and scared the **** out of her, so she gave me a nasty look and threw her hands up. I got out and asked why she was such a lazy *****. She just gave me the finger and started walking away, so I grabbed her cart, waited for her to get into her car and stuck the cart right behind her so she had to get out to push it out of the way. She was extremely pissed, and the fact that I was laughing my *** off probably didn't help. Maybe it was a little immature, but damn if it wasn't fun.

Speaking of grocery shopping, I like to buy a few boxes of ammo (usually .22LR) when I go to Walmart, just so I can pay for everything back there.

That said I don't normally go to Walmart anymore. Once every few weeks at most.
