For those of you who know who Peter Egan of Road & Track he needs no introduction. For the rest of you, Peter is the only reason I still subscribe to Road & Track Magazine. He is the best automotive writer there is as he is funny, touching, articulate and insightful. He also has cred as a mechanic as he used to turn wrenches for a living. Check out his toolbox here:

I bought one of those Uni-Sync's back in 1970 when I was attempting to rebuild a 1961 Sunbeam Alpine engine (my first rebuild attempt). After putting it back together (with a few parts left over), I couldn't even get the engine running well enough to attempt a carb syncronization.....

I also am a big fan of Peter Egan, I've read all his books and my tool box is very similar. Anyone who's worked on imports - mostly English cars - has all of those and more!

That collection of tools is soo much like mine, the SO 3/8" wratchet, Uni-Sync, ...

Although, I used a length of hose to sync the S.U. carbs, until I could afford the Uni-Sync.

That Uni-Syn brings back memories. The only thing worse than a car with a carburetor is a car with multiple carbs.

I have the same Craftsman prydriver... or is it screwdriver. I've had it since the early '80s, and it's probably never been used to turn a screw.

Do you guys subscribe to R&T? If you do , you'll know he just recently retired from writing his monthly column in R&T. He is a FANTASTIC writer and I can so very much relate to him. As a british car guy, I understand everything he writes about the good old TR's, etc. Also a guitar player, so I relate to that too. I miss his columns already! Many of us are about the same age....baby boomers...and he reached us so many times. It got so that I felt he was my buddy.

And I still have my uni-syn. I also was pretty good just using a length of surgical rubber hose. Darn Stromberg CDSE175's!

Peter retired from writing in Cycle World too

He was the primary reason I have always been a subscriber.

Then the magazine went with that new aged hipster crappy look...changed the font, the format, etc...

I personally think they changed the format to accommodate short attention spans!

Yes, I know he retired. I am letting the subscription go when it ends. He was the only reason i read the magazine anymore.
Funny how I have that same pry driver from craftsman too.

I grew up reading his articles in the high school library, while everybody else was flipping to the 0-60 stats. I desperately loved his writing style and wanted to some day write just like him. What an awesome writer. I think the only writer in present day even remotely close is Ezra Dyer of Automobile.

Peter Egan is my FAVORITE writer. My 20 year old son just asked where his editorial was in last months Cycle World. He was heartbroken when I told him that he retired, I must have raised him right. My daughter and I have read Leanings over a dozen times, she took it with her to college. I hope all the younger generation will still appreciate a great writer like Peter.

Thing is, if you read every column and article of his in R&T, then you don't need some of these books, but that never stopped me. Even though I still have (COUGH hoarder) all the magazines.

I'm tempted to start at the beginning of the Leanings series, even though I've got no motorcycle inclinations.

Sports cars motorcycles and airplanes. Peter has written about them all and seems to understand and appreciate them all the same way I understand and appreciate them.

If I was gay I would be in love with him. Since I'm not, I will simply to read and appreciate his stories.

He recently did an article on T.E. Lawrence. You know, Lawrence of Arabia fame. Very good and gave some info on T.E. that I had not known.

I just received "Leanings 3" for Christmas this year.

I love actually having a new one to read after having re-read "Leanings 1 & 2" a few times already (over the years of course).
