Just an update. I have been busy for weeks it seems on this project and it really seems like it shouldn't have taken this long. Either way the bunk had to be sanded and worked over a lot by hand. I'm not a body man but its done enough to run down the highway.

Well here is a finished product. Again I'm no body man or painter. I laid down enough paint to give it a good cover and its mounted on the truck. I did use the kirker single stage paint and I feel it is extremely durable. Time will tell.

Actually the finish is not that nice. Lots of zebra stripes and some runs here and there. Once again though it's not a show piece.

Yes I pull a drop deck.

I have come a long ways since I posted my 94.

I bought this 2000.

Then I had it cut in half and stretched 54 inches and added a 3rd axle.

Then bought the 55 ton trail king.

Got lots of good info off of the couple of builds you have done here.

That's a sharp setup.

The OP's build is very sharp, too.

When you put the ring back in to hold the sleeper boot do you have a picture of how it is huck bolted in?I'm trying to put a bigger hole in a double eagle sleeper and don't want to tear apart my interior until the eagle is redone.

On the cab or sleeper side. Double eagles have 1 inch walls. The opening fits best if you put it over the front skin. You need to support that ring so it don't shake them double eagles apart. They are poorly built to begin with.

Give me some better info. I have done a unibilt opening on a kenworth with a double eagle.

It will be on the sleeper side.It had a small and i mean small hole in the sleeper. From looking at a sleeper wrecked in the yard it looks like the boot goes into the sleeper to attach to the ring. The ring has the grove in the middle and a larger outer ring and the smaller ring.I'm trying to figure out which direction the ring should be riveted in.From the inside of the sleeper or facing the truck? From the look of the picture of the black sleeper the larger part of the ring goes outside and the sleeper boot mount is inside the sleeper is that correct?

Actually double eagles are known for being built like a tank, ICT not so much. ARI makes a very good sleeper, I've had 2 of those.

When i was taking the sink and fridge area of the sleeper apart i was amazed at how much of a pain it was to disassemble.More screws than you could shake a stick at.Floor was corroded so i replaced it.Don't really need the size of the bed thats in it but with all the work it took to get the front 37 inches out i'm going to leave the bed portion alone.Have the shower ready to go in but the boot ring should go in before i put the insulation and sound deadening in the floor. The truck is a 99 unibilt ultra cab.

Someone fed you false information. I've worked on several and they are all cheaply made, poorly welded and structural design disasters. You can't do anything major without lifting the roof cap. Double eagle themselves told me when a corner is damaged it's almost cheaper to build a new sleeper. I had an ict for a lot of years, good bunk, better structure being 1x2 aluminum vs double eales 1x1. The rear wall of a double eagle is poorly designed, almost everyone one with any age needs a complete rear wall rebuild.

I've never owned a D.E. or ICT, I have friends that have had both and there opinions are, ICT- last choice then D.E. and ARI is first choice. I should add that those sleepers were purchased new as were my 2 ARIs. Of course ICT and D.E. are both out of business now. I have been to all 3 facilities and ARI is pretty impressive followed by D.E. and then ICT. Double Eagle was always real independent, you couldn't hardly deal with Rocky and that was a big part of there problem.

Seems we have different options, do some structural work on a double eagle and you'll more then likely change your mind. I met a guy that had a 198" double eagle. There wasn't enough air bags made to keep that floor from sagging.

Ict is not out of business, false info again. I have dealt with them several times and had great responses.

Double eagle is out of business due to theit poor business tactics. They didn't go after new customers like ICT and ARI does. They seemed to think that all these old drivers were going to keep the doors open and that wasn't the case. The phone stopped ringing and the doors got shut.

Ict was started from a previous employee of double eahle, and ARI was started by a previous employee of ict.

ARI and ict are both good bunks. I just bought a f sold a 58" double eagle. I only bought it to resell. I had no interest in using that pile of junk. And it was in phenomenal shape.

Well I have no personal experience with ICT or D.E. other than I did look at them before I bought my first big sleeper. After I saw ARIs operation and the way there sleepers were built it was a done deal. I've owned 2 of them, I'm retired now but if I were still working I'd have another ARI. I do have friends that have purchased ICT new that could tell some horror stories and friends that bought D.E.s that really liked them and are still on the road. If you're dealing with older sleepers then there are a lot of variables, what kind of life has it had . There was one guy that was involved with D.E. and then ICT that was part of the original ARI founders, nice guy, I bought 1 of my sleepers from him before he retired. I'm not defending D.E., I couldn't get along with Rocky and I don't like the support wall that they put in all there bunks, ya couldn't give me one. ICTs quality has changed several times over the years and no doubt they have built some good ones but not for several years. About the only thing they had going for them is that they would build anything you wanted, they really didn't have a spec sleeper, they were all custom. ARI will build custom but it aint cheap and there spec. sleeper has everything you could want and there are options.

First I'd like to say thank you for making great, detailed posts with pictures to back it up. I read through this whole post and also the one on Scott's kw. I'm not on Facebook or any other social media and the other forms I've been on are all but dead now a days. It was refreshing to find this and see there are still people out there building cool
**** that they are proud of. I know I've seen you a few times and tacked with you on the cb before. I also consider JG to be a friend. Anyways enough ranting, keep up the good work and I'll be following along. I don't have the time or energy to make a complete post about any of my past projects but maybe I'll start one on the 359 I'm putting together. Either way, keep on truckin'!

Hey Garett, I've seen you around as well, hollered several times, no response so I kept on truckin lol. Thanks for the kind words, I don't do much on this thread cause the trucks not currentry in a project status. I have new frame rails and am considering a brand new chassis for the old girl. That won't be til my shop is 100% done which is very close. As you may have noticed this forum is mostly guys with a few ladies but a vast of knowledge regarding fabrication, tooling, machine work, welding and the free parking brings some ranting but we don't have the drama of social media. I used to do the Facebook **** (Rod Joe) but have enough of the whiny sore vaginas on there. This is my limit. So enjoy the forum and post your projects as you work on them. I posted mine while I was doing the work, this wasn't a backup logged type thread. I only update when it's in project mode. Welcome aboard.

Thanks man. I appreciate it. Yes I as well have been off fb and all social media for about three years. I use the LCM forum but that's about it. I'm currently in the process of building an 85 359 exhd with a c model cat 15od and 3:90's. I just acquired a 54" DE. I know I know another 359 but after months of looking for an extended hood A I became impatient. I just finished my 71 k125. It's mostly just for show but I'm enjoying running it around. I ran the Midwest for the last 5 years or so a few times a week but now I mostly just run the north east. As far as not hollering back, after I moved my antenna to the back of the bunk I never had much luck matching swr's so I was constantly chasing one problem or another. I respect the stuff you build and I'm happy I've found this place.

I used to the the lcm forum as well. I understand it's about dead though. I left that forum about 6 years ago.

Keep us posted on the 359 project. Keep in mind we have a lot of peterbilt 359 parts still. 2 63" sleepers for sale and so on. I'm not a double eagle fan at all. I just sold one to a guy in NY that was built in 2000 and was cherry. He was happy to buy it and I was happy to see it go lol. Our extended hood A was for sale. But we decided to keep it til we need to sell it. A numbers matching truck with the original V12 and 13 speed in it.

Time for a heart transplant. The old engine made it 960k putting over 600 hp out of it. We're upgrading to a 14L engine without egr with a compact gear train. More power, less wear and tear. We're off and running.aabf8eff1e0c68c4a8b03de16e9f7d2f.jpg468efe74dd70449f952d8cb99b929efd.jpg

I feel for guys that work on these. It seems like it took half the day to get to the block. All that egr **** is just out of hand. And the grease. Ho lee tomatoes, I'd be embarrassed if my engine was this dirty..606b4baea2bba280793b4365b8e24922.jpga6afa63b2cba1139d0b075c4033a29fd.jpg79f210a5df06947e46a9928fb6876ad5.jpg
