It's almost a shame to do machine work on this. It's very clean inside. Counter bores look good, but its gotta be perfect. Cut the counter bores, square the deck, mag the block. Polish and mag the crank and we're off and running.04c2d21d5da6b888c0c8e905f735a907.jpg

Can you turn it into a 99-2000 version DDEC III? Those were pretty good engines ran nice, good fuel mileage, and good long life. But, I don’t know about 600 hp.

Didn’t you have a CAT before?

Things have changed. We're going to retain to compact gear train, use a 14L pre egr head, injectors, ecm, harness and tune and make it a ddec IV. It will break in with a 575HP tune. Then we'll adjust after that time.

And to answer your question, no, we're a die-hard detroit diesel family. But I won't knock a cat cause I've never had one.

Love these photos of the rebuild and reading about your adventures. Keep them coming! One question, what do you mean by 'mag the block'?

Current update. This build has been a build from hell. I'm a one man band so everything seems to take forever. The wife's busy with the kids so anything I need I have to get. My original machine shop closed unexpectedly, my new machine shop cussed me out of the shop screwed up my counterbores, and my block is currently at the dealership getting the counterbores repaired. Should be ready to start building Soon. a891a3a2db651726c8f79da02954733c.jpg

It truly does **** sometimes. I don't even have buddies stopping by to help. It's literally the wife and I, that's it
