I have been a follower of Garage Journal for some time now, but hadn't had a garage of own to start a thread about. A week ago that all changed.

My wife and I closed on our first home last week and I am happy to say I got the one thing I wanted in a house...a 2 car garage with an attic. I have been so busy getting the house ready, so we can move in two weeks I have only managed to take a few pictures. I have attached a few pictures for now, but more will follow soon.

More to come...

Great start, looks like good bones.

Is this in the Kettering area, lots of old brick garages and houses in that area.

I grew up three houses from the end of Kettering out on Wilmington pike where they're building the costco by 675.

94.....Welcome to Garage Journal. We have a lot of Buckeyes on here, and chances are you are living very close to a few of them. Myself, I'm probably 30 minutes or so away in Urbana. Just a tic north of Springfield.

Congrats on closing on your first house. From the pics you show, it looks nice, along with some nice landscaping. Looking forward to seeing what plans you have in store. And if you have been on here for any length of time at all just doing the Peeping Tom thing, then you know that we LIKE pics.

So post away brother. And when it comes to the garage, we will surely help you spend your money :rocker: Of course you don't need to let the wife know about that. What she doesn't know, won't hurt her. Or maybe what she doesn't know, won't hurt you :headscrat

Now let's see the inside of the garage. We need to get this ball rolling :thumbup:

Thank you! I am glad to see so many Ohioans (especially some fairly close) on the board.

Pictures and plans are on the way.

I finally got around to getting a few more pictures. Its been a busy week of working on the house and getting things prepared to move next week.

Quick specs on the garage.

Outside dimensions are approximately 20' by 23'

Inside dimensions are approximately 18' 8" by 20' 6'

The garage attic has approximately the same floor dimensions as the garage with about a 7' ceiling. The joists are 2X6's on 24" centers. The garage roof is made up 2X4's on 16" centers.

As it stands now, the plan for the garage is minimal until we are moved in and a few house related projects under wraps.

But I did kick it off last week by having a new garage door opener installed. The one that was in place was the better part of 30 years old and had no openers and would barely lift the door. Money well spent in my book.

First off will be a good cleaning and some white paint on the walls and inside of the garage door to help brighten things up. Possibly to include some lighting improvements.

Second, will be to get the short term storage situation dialed in. The garage has some, but it needs to be refined. I will set up a few additional shelving units until a more permanent solution can be installed.

Third will be to build a 6'X8' gable style garden shed to ad in de-cluttering and organizing the garage. (BTW, if anyone has any plans for a 6'X8' gable style garden shed I am currently looking). The lawn and garden gear needs its own home.

Lastly, will be to have the garage attic looked at by a pro sometime later this fall and/or winter. I would like to be able to make use of to space , but want to do it the right way. I am open to suggestions.

More to come, but this should be plenty to get me started.

Another quick update. Moved my garage over the weekend, but didn't get the garage painted as planned.

The only other mishap was a blown tire on my trailer.
