Looking at the kit you bought, its now $180 bucks, not to happy with "cant get it perfectly straight, can you take some pics of your install, like mounting to the walls etc..

Remind me next week, i will try to get the pictures of it i just finished putting it together as far as i am going for now and checked for leaks. I am going out of town for a few days so i will have to get them when i get back.

For the cant get it strait, if you work at it for a little bit you can get it fairly strait. I was a bit impatent when was putting it up. The kit comes with some plastick clips that you screw to the studs every 5 feet but i am going to put in more when i get more time and paitence to do it.

What I like about my shop air lines (black iron) is that I can not use them for weeks and the compressor never has to kick on. It tooks some time and effort to get to that point. If my air lines were PEX buried in a wall and the compressor was cycling, how would I even begin to start finding and fixing the leaks?

Phil

I did my rented shop with pex about 5 years ago now. Not one fitting leaked, Just have to get good crimps. I put shutoffs at each air hose as I found that the cheep HF water collectors leaked. I turn them off each night and the compressor was never ran unless being used.

We are moving that shop now and will be cutting out the lines and reusing them.

I find it really hard to believe that the manufacturers of PEX haven't done any testing for air. There's a pretty big market out there that they could supply. Maybe they tested but weren't happy with the results? Dunno.

my guess would be that they cannot test the environment and they dont make any money selling this as airline. Imagine how many combinations of pressure, temperature, oil types etc that it would see if they recommended it for air. They would just open themselves up for a lot of failures for no real payback. Water hardness and chemical makeup are a little more predictable and the payback is worth the risk.

In my new garage , I bought "Rapid air" 1/2 in blue tubing.
I have a supply for fittings that is much more reasonable, so I bought from them.
hose was 100' for $49.00
fittings were $50 for elbows, tees, adaptors, quick disconnects, etc ( about 30 fittings all together)
I use "adele" clamps to fasten to the walls.
it sits loaded at 150 to 175 psi ALL THE TIME, 24HRS A DAY, 7 DAYS A WEEK!

Pex-al-pex is rated for "compressed gases". At least thats what some of the literature I was reading said. Ill have to link it when I get home though, I'm on my phone now.

I was having a discussion about it and somebody made a claim that it was completely unsuitable for airlines for some reason and when I presented the evidence he just completely ignored it like it wasn't there, and then later tried to claim it meant something else....iirc it was even rated for vacuum

This topic is like politics, everyone has their own opinion and no one is going to change anyone elses opinion

THE stuff in the Rapidair kit is PUVEX - made for air - a variation of PEX

Well, ..., Might as well put my 2cents worth in again, ...
I'm a Transair reseller, & I love working with it.
It's like playing with Lego's when installing!
Kid's & their toys ya know, ...,)

One project often sells another nearby, ...

www.transair-usa.com

Unlike some of the other 'smart pipe' & 'rapid' products, these fittings just push together until they bottom out. No need to tighten after inserting the powder-coated aluminum pipe.
A typical shop system can be done in hours, instead of days.

Many manufacturing plants flat-spec using this product in the plant. Anyone installing new equipment, uses the Transair product for their piping requirements.

And just like everyone has their favorite Chevrolet, Ford, ..., & mine is Pontiac, ..., everyone has their favorite pipe to work with too.

Opinions are like azzholes, everyone has one & some of them stink, ...,

Yup, it's nice stuff for sure. Unfortunately the topic is ''PEX'' airlines not what do you reccomend for compressed air. See we are trying to sort out tha can I or can I not basically. Your stuff is nice but I can plumb my 28x36 garage in prolly 45min with pex, it's cheap and can be found very local to all, for initial purchase and repair/addition. Unlike transair has to be ordered, can not be repaired/added without an order and has a nice price tag to boot
