Am I OK with running superpex underground for water service to my shop ?
I have 3/4" superpex I was going to direct bury. Sharkbite fittings on the ends where I will transition to copper inside

Why PEX? Use the 1" black polyethylene well pipe designed for exactly this application. Available at the home improvement store of your choice. Brass or plastic barb fittings with hose clamps transition to whatever internal plumbing you want. Don't reinvent the wheel.

Fifteen years ago went to a plumbing supply wholesaler, I was running 150 foot, they recommended Black poly I believe with a red stripe. There are many grades of poly some use compression fittings while others use hose clamps. The home stores sell the thinner wall stuff, not to my liking as I have experienced failures, splitting Etc.

I used black poly in my dairy barn, the cows treated them badly and they held up well unless I used the thin wall stuff.

If distance from the source pump to your shop is quite far you may experience pressure drops, the solution is to use larger diameter poly.

In the end, use what you get easily without any underground joints, poly or pex. they both will do the job. Just at what price?

I replaced our 120' main water line with 1" Pex two years ago. The cost was about the same as the 1" poly well pipe. The 1" poly well pipe is not approved in our town for connection to the municipal water supply, but Pex is approved and recommended by the City Engineer.

Pex would work fine, although poly water pipe might be cheaper. If I ever run water to my garage I plan on snaking 3/4" PEX through some PVC conduit, just for peace of mind. Direct burial should be fine, although I'd still protect it with conduit where it comes above ground, for protection from sunlight.

PEX fan here as well. I had some PEX blue ran to a temporary op shelter @10 yrs ago. we used standard PEX and didn't bury any of it. its laid on the ground and up the side of the building for all this time. no problems at all. I used this as a company funded experiment to see how long PEX would last in the S. TX sun.
