I am wanting to order a Taco supply pump from the Pextubingstore.com, I have 960 square feet with almost the same amount of 1/2 inch pex in the floor in 4 loops. Going to use a Hydro shark 3 -boiler to heat the floor but wondering what size of pump I need. Anyone have any ideas as well as how big an expansion tank is required. Put the pex in today and the concrete is coming tomorrow at 730am.

Pumps are sizes for heat load and head loss so not enough info to figure that one. I'd say a taco 007, but can't really say. For the tank size we would need to know the total water volume of the system. 1000' of pex holds 9.25 gallons of water. I could not find any specs on the boiler, but a picture of one would lead me to believe it couldn't hold more than a gallon or two. The rest of the piping is also going to be a gallon or two, depending on were the boiler is etc. So that would be between 11 and 14 gallons of water, roughly. That much water will expand between .8 and 1 gallon when heated from 50 degrees to 180 degrees. If heating water to a lower temp the expansion would be less. You would be safe to use a tank with a volume of 1.5 to 2 gallons.
Hope your concrette pour went okay.

Dkramer- Just saw your post this morning, thanks for the info- the Taco 007 was what I was thinking of as well. The info on the tank looks to be in the range of what the fellow at Menards was talking about as well. The concrete pour went "okay", but I think the contractor got a little impatient towards 600pm and I have some swirl marks from the power trowel and he didn't finish the edges very well. I pointed this out to him in a polite fashion and he asked me if I wanted some cash taken off the bill(which had already been paid in cash) and I said that this wasn't the point. It was the actual quality of the work being pointed out(he is a young fellow getting started) so it wouldn't happen to someone else. He looked around the building and asked if I needed anything else done in the shop. I suggested I purchase the gyproc and he could put it on the ceiling of the shop for me. He thought this was satisfactory- should take him about 5-6 hours with his helper. Sorry for the long answer to a short question.
