Have any of you guys used PEX water lines outdoors to run to an outbuilding? My garage is 100 feet from the house. Did you put it inside PVC pipe or did you just run it by itself? How did you protect it where it went into the building? Thanks for any info........j willis

I've used white PEX 100's of times for in ground waterlines. No sleeve/conduit needed in clean soil.

If coming up in a slab no sleeve is needed.

If going through a basement (poured) wall we use a PVC sleeve and then run the waterline through it later. The waterproofing company injects a 2 part epoxy type deal around the waterline (in the sleeve) and we have never had one leak.

You can also seal it with hydraulic cement to save some coin.

I can't imagine it being any different than your sprinkler systems in terms of direct burying it. My main concern would be about freezing in winter so you would need to have it below the frost line.

If I remember correctly PEX is rated for direct burial.

We use it everywhere here in the south. Blue for cold, Red for hot, white for direct bury. You need access to a crimper to secure the hardware to it. I borrow my neighbors. You can do anything with it.
There are lots of accessories for it. I recommend it highly.

We used a PEX that was rated for burial to run a frost free hydrant to replace a spicket that was in the way when building a deck.

We ran a dedicated line of the main inside the house and took it thru the foundation and ran it out. No problems so far. Put a ball valve on it JIC for the future, expansions and such.

never sleeved poly but have sleeved lots of copper and poly. we used the black poly you would use for sprinkler piping black in color usually sold in 100' coils.one bad thing about pex is the flow restriction due to the fittings depending on what you are doing it maybe an issue. you might want to consider poly pipe with copper fittings

I would probably just use it in the summer. My garage isn't heated in the winter so I don't go out there much, like I do in the summer. So, in the winter, I would probably blow the hose out with air and let it go for the winter. It would probably take about 120 feet to do the job completely. But, I was wondering if putting it inside PVC or galvanized pipe would give it added protection. Thanks for the info. It is greatly appreciated.
