Bought these about 8 years ago from a closed down General Contractor (all 3 for $40) and I'm getting ready to refurbish them. Wonder what the value is and what they would be after a total redo of paint and mechanicals with a non-stock color. Green is just wrong in my shop.

Hope the pictures are sufficient.

The only real use for them is in a duct shop that is using Pittsburgh locks. Making them pretty will not make them more valuable. If I was still doing duct work I might give $80 for the pair but you are looking at a very small pool of buyers.

Rust cleanup is okay. But repainting to cover the original green would devalue the tools.

I am reminded of a similar effort of my own. I acquired numerous older American vises for an average price of say $100. I then spent several hours on each vise, disassembling, cleaning, painting, reassembling. They looked pretty good when I was done. They even functioned better with less grime and a little more lube.

Final result: they are not worth any more because of my efforts. With hindsight, I would say they are worth less to a buyer than had they been left with the original paint.

A good clean up, adjustment, lube, will give a greater return than any attempt at restoration. Martha Stewart might suggest a color pallet for your garage that will allow you to keep the original paint.
