I just picked up a pexto 137 shear , nice shape , needs a cleaning , the bad is it needs blades ( doesn't have them ) . Anybody have experience in the best place to purchase new or used . Paid $200 for the shear so think it's worth buying new but a used set might be way to go . Thanks , richard

Last time I checked blades are available from Pexto. Congrats on your shear!

Thank you , I've been watching them looking for a good price . I can spend small amounts of money here and there so even though it's not a super deal it works for me . Yes I believe they still sell them but their not cheap . If I can find a good used set even better .

Good luck. I'm fortunate the two machines I refurbished had usable blades.

Here's my 37" Brown and Boggs and 50" Pexto.

Nice machines , I'm finding they are a bit pricy to buy and used are rare . Only advantage is with new I'll probably never need to sharpen them . Cost about $200 to sharpen and probably $700 new . Other option is there is another machine the guy wants $300 for but it's an 18 ga machine . Not sure if the blades are the same ( anyone who knows would be helpful ) that machine has a repaired cast pedal so maybe could part that out and keep the blades . Probably just buy new and move along

If the machines are the same capacity and generation, good chance the blades are the same. If not, then probably not.

Maybe do some research and find a parts list for each shear.

A used machinery dealer might have something, or something could pop on ebay.

I'd wager that having a set made will cost more than you think.

I havnt figured out how to post pictures yet , it's actually still in the box truck because I havnt had time to unload it and found a spot to put it . Quotes for the knives so far are average $325 each with federal knife quoting $572 for the pair ( very nice people and responded right away ). My blade sharpener thinks he has a set in the shop that's been there a while and says I can have them , that would be a real find . As soon as I figure out the picture thing I will post pictures . Thanks everyone , Richard

Hey neighbor, who sharpens these? Have an old Niagara shear I got for free, could use a sharpening.

Yes you can flip the bottoms once and the tops 4 , at least on the pexto . You can take them to resharp in Halifax . He sends them out but I don't think you will pay any shipping . I'm waiting for my saw sharpener to get back to me , he says he has a set he will give me but I don't have them in my hand . I believe he does them . So you could give them to me and he'll take them with my saw blades . I read they were around $200 to sharpen . He picks up at my shop next Wednesday

Well I finally got a set of blades , had to buy another shear that was from a school and came with an extra set . Now I have a shear on Craigslist for sale . By the way after seeing the blades only one side is beveled or sharp and in doing some reading flipping the blades looks like it means changing them , not rotating them ??
