Anyone compared the Pferd victograin grinding discs (example Pferd 61167) vs the Walter flexcut (ex: 15L-453)

Both are spendy versus a standard "rock" but both have proponents. Supposedly cut much faster and have good life. I've never had a life issue with standard el-cheapo grinding discs but they do cut slowly.

Dont have personal experience with those exact models, bu ive ran both brands in cutting and grinding disc. They are excellent.

Go with the cheaper of the two, you wont be disappointed.

Thanks Tarbell, nice to hear from someone with personal experience. In most cases the flexcuts have to be bought in boxes of 25, but I found one place that will do a lower count.

I run Pferd grinding wheels almost exclusively; they seem to cut better and last longer than other brands. (Haven't tried Walter)
Can't say the same for the Pferd cutoff wheels though; they're adequate but nothing special, IMO.
I really like the Benchmark Abrasive high density (double thickness} flap discs. Also the Workpro discs from Amazon perform surprisingly well.

Pferd and Walter are the pick of the litter. You can't go wrong with either brand. By the way the proper way to say Pferd is Fert. It's German for horse. That's why you see the picture of a horse on all of their products.

What i would really recommend is looking into adhesive/stick back 5" or 6" with 5/8" threaded rubber backer plates.

Everybody loves flap disc, I did too, until I ran through so many that I learned how to dress them etc...
They fall short imo, tend to clog, need dressing, odd angles, expensive, etc...

Id rather spend less on a 50 pack of adhesive pads and a nice backer plate and replace as needed. More consistent wear, better shaping due to soft/med/hard backing plates, and cheaper overall.

Even when running that combo, Pferd, Walter, United Abrasives, 3M, etc... all make great abrasives.

What are you grinding with a flap disc that loads it? I've never had that problem. With Aluminum you simple either use wax or WD40 and a normal flap disc will never load. Additionally, Lehigh Valley Abrasives sells stearated flap discs specifically for aluminum that don't load. Are you using these on wood?

No wood, mostly carbon steel, SS, and some aluminum. The Al makes sense for loading, I use wax when I can.
But its loading, wearing past abrasive, etc... I should take a photo.

Still requires dressing them, which I hate doing. I much prefer a more linear wear of a standard disc.
