Phantom Pipe

In the process of moving into a new home. (built in 1989) Single story tract home in SoCal, purchased from original owner.
Appears the house plumbing has been converted over to PEX, which out here is a good thing. Relatively new hot water heater.
Wondering what this pipe might be for. Backs up to a bedroom. There is a soft water filter plumbed into the system on the other side of the garage.
any guesses?

Can't help you on your question, but that is certainly copper and not the PEX conversion you spoke of.

That would typically be a water softener system loop.

Not sure what sort of filter you have that's giving you soft water, but the picture is showing what most likely would be a system loop for a water softener. Like Killer95Stang said.

I also think it's a connection point for a future water softener, pretty common around here to install the loop when the home is being built.

All the comments on it being a connection loop for a water softener are correct. I had the exact thing in our house in So Cal when we moved in 3 years ago. I put it to immediate use.

Here's the softener on the other side of the garage. Not sure why the previous owner decided not to use the existing plumbing. May make sense to move it to the "towel bar" location, opening up wall space towards the front of the garage.
Will get a plumber to verify. Thanks for the input.

That’s a filter, not a water softener. Still not bad to have.

Is that filter on the main water line into the house? That "loop" is maybe for the softener after the lines are separated for outside bibs, in which you don't want soft water going to.

I need to offer an edit to my post #9 in this thread. The pipe loop like the one shown in the OP's post in my case turned out to be a loop for the plumbing that fed only a faucet for drinking water (at the kitchen sink) and the frig ice maker. I put a RO filter system on this loop to provide RO water to those locations.

If you want to find out what the loop is tied to, I'd cut it and install a valve you can shut off. Then you can see which locations no longer receive water with the valve shut off.
