I have a trolly mounted three phase one ton electric hoist. I have had it for about 10 years and cannot live without it. I am moving and do not have three phase in the new shop. About 20 years ago in my business I changed out a three phase centrifugal pump that had a 2 HP Phase O Matic (P-O-M)to a smaller single phase pump. I saved the P-O-M. So hard to through stuff away

So to wire up the hoist to the P-O-M I am assuming that I have to have a switch to turn on the POM before I can operate the hoist control. Then when done flip the switch to off. So the P-O-M will be on constant run when I want to use the hoist. I think

If within 50' and within sight of the equipment the breaker would serve as both a switch and the required disconnect.
If beyond, a correctly rated disconnect would be necessary where you could switch the static converter on and off.

Is the Phase-Oh-Matic a static converter (basically just a box with a light and a button on it?)

If so its my opinion you need to add an idler motor to make it a rotary converter. (If it has its own integral motor then you should be OK).

An electric chain hoist has a fair amount of amp draw as soon as the hoist contactors close and usually there's a lot of bumping up and down to fine-position. A static converter will not be able to handle all of the loaded starts if you ask me.

Along those lines its very important to figure out which two of (L1, L2, L3) has the control transformer hooked to it and wire those two to your residential 240vac power. Let the generated/3rd leg go just to the motor. In combination with the amp draw its very easy to get a big sag on the generated leg due to the inrush/voltage drop as soon as a button is pressed on the hoist controller. This can easily lead to chattering relays and strange behavior from the hoist.
