Hi guys,
Heading off on 2 weeks holidays, when we get back I have to rebuild a 20kw 3 phase 1000 volt 50hz submersible water pump, Flygt bs 2251.011 type (the brand is a Pumpeng 20kw Raptor) It’s been striped by another company and all the parts have been supplied, by the look of all the parts on the pallet, the stator needed to be replaced and has been supplied with the wet end parts.
On the pallet I have a 3 phase winding with six wires coming off all black in colour with no other markings, stripes or numbers. The stator is not fitted in the stator housing
Now I can determine the 3 pairs with the aid of a multi meter, U pair, V pair and W pair.
My problem is how can I determine the ends of the pairs ie U1&U2, V1&V2, W1&W2 so I don’t get a locked rotor condition.
Cheers
Tony

When i hookup pumps in the field with leads with no labels, i bump start them like rockwithjason said.

If u have a 55 gallon drum, u could fill it with water, put the pump in and see if it pumps. If it doesnt, reverse 2 leads.

Somewhere in a dark memory bank there is something about applying a dc voltage to the coil and checking polarity with a compass or magnet to tell you the magnetic north and south. Each pair of wires should induce the same magnetic polarity.

no neat sig line

Your memory is good.

Had me scratching my head till I saw your location. Is 1000 volts a normal range out there?

Thanks for the reply’s guys, what I was looking for is a way to check before it all goes together on the bench,
We have made a test tank from a scrap metal skip bin, discharge spooling with a knife gate valve, a flow meter, pressure gauge and returning in to a baffled section of the bin. The 20kw moves about 27lps or 420gph. I find it a PITA trying to sort the phase wires/stator wire ends, I just like to get things right first time and if need be change phase rotation only in the field, but with most of our customers we know the site rotation and set the pump before it leaves the shop.

I’m liking this, can I see this on you tube??

Hi RoyBell, 1000 volt 50hz is the norm for underground, Above ground seems to be 415volt 50hz,Offshore we seem to go 60hz.

Cheers
