Philips core range 5ft LED lamps?

Hi Guys, just starting to look at lighting for the garage we are moving to in a month. The local electrical wholesalers have some LED units for not too many $$ more than fluorescents , Philips Core Range http://thelightbulbshop.co.nz/led-fittings/battons/philips-led-batten-60w-5ft/#.VyZx53oQuK8 Anybody have any experience with these?

Well, took the plunge into the brave new world of LED & got 11 of these for the new shed. Hooked one up last night & it looks pretty good. Should have them up in a couple of weeks so will post some pics then.

Wish I would have seen this a month ago. You can get almost the same thing, only it's 4ft, from Costco, SAMS or Home Depot for 1/3 that price.

Too late, but good to hear you like them. Be sure to post photos for possible future buyers.

Looks like a decent fixture. Philips makes good lighting products overall and has a lot of experience with lighting.

Looks like the LED variants are advertised as 1 LED lamp replaces 2 traditional lamps. But according to the specifications, with the LED version producing 6000 lumens and the traditional lamp producing 4600 lumens, that's not quite the case.

Other considerations like reflector efficiency, color temp, CRI, etc come into play but so long as you weren't expecting to replace 2 traditional lamps with 1 LED lamp without a small drop in brightness, I think you'll be very happy with your lighting choice.

You are right that the lumens don't quite add up, but they are selling them as a direct replacement for a twin tube 5' fixture so I though I'd give them a try. I was quite ready to take them all back if the light didn't measure up to my eye but fortunately it looks really good.

I put one up next to an existing 2x 58W 5' Fluorescent fitting (with diffuser) to compare & the LED actually looks brighter than the flouro's. I wonder if the LED fixture's lumen rating includes the diffuser? That plus the other factors you mention certainly seem to add up in favour of the LED in this case.

You dont get all the lumens out of the fluorescents that they claim. Ballast factor, fixture reflectance losses, etc, will drop the rated lumens significantly. The LED lumens are all delivered to the target, which is why the LEDs are brighter, even with fewer lumens.
