Now that this is the age of cell phones and phone booths are a thing of the past on street corners (as I think they have been for awhile as they were replaced with drive up booths.) Does anyone have a phone booth for garage decor? And if so, where did you get it? I have been keeping an eye out for one, but to no avail. I'd like to have one in the garage to go along with the gas pumps. I was riding around one day and seen an older English red booth in someones yard, but it did not last long. I stopped to inquire about it, no one was home, went back the next week and it was gone. So if you have a booth, post it up.

Bit off the original post...I saw on tv that a bar had one of those old red phone booths in the middle of the bar...it was sound proof...and when ever a guy had to phone home with an excuse as to why he was late the phone booth could play background noise ie: train station, airport, traffic to help back up the little lie to the wife/girlfriend and allow the guy to have a few more brews with his buddies...thought it was hillarious.

btw those old phone booths are cool

There is a bar in Norman, OK called O'Connell's (or at least it was still there when I was up a few months back) that had one of these. It had a little machine hooked up to the phone that you put a quarter in and picked an "ambiance" to play while on the phone. Tried it a couple of times but the ability to believe that I wasn't at a bar was quickly foiled by my thick slurring accent and 2 minute bouts of hiccupping. :)

I believe they were all owned by the phone co.s
They may be some laying in the back of your local service "barn"
But I would expect most to be sold for scrap by now
I would try to make friends with a phone co service tech.
BTW. I saw a neat story on how the guys that try and fortell the future screw up.
In the movie 2001, when a guy in the Moon Station wanted to make a phone call to his boss, he went to the lobby phone booth.
He didn't have a cell phone.

There was a wooden one in a old drug store that had been vacant for a number of years, and when the demo crew went inside to clean it out for the new tenant, they trashed everything and put it all into a dumpster. There were a lot of interesting items inside, but they get paid to clean out the place, and the longer it takes, the more they spend in labor. They are not interested in saving anything, unless they can take it out to their truck easily and quickly. Many times when a building is being demoed, they don't take anything out other than the metal..

Eventually, me and the wife will fabricate a blue phone booth. Well, a blue police box to be more specific. =)

Will you take calls from the 'Doctor'? I was think about a blue police box (or at least the front of it) in the TV room above the garage. I'd like to see yours when you get it done.

I have a Tardis in the back garden, folks have stopped asking what it is nowadays. They all know.
A bloke at work built his own Dalek and I aim to copy it when I retire next month.

Did you hear over there that David Tennant is leaving after 2009?
Much speculation as to who will replace him in the UK press.

thdewey, it'll be several years, but is on the definite to-do list.

Frank, my wife is pretty broken up that Tennant is leaving, but that's okay. There's not much speculation here b/c most of us are unfamiliar with UK acting talent, but whomever it is, I'd give him at least half a season before I make any judgements.

I'm a bit concerned though, since Tennant raised the bar pretty high. I really don't think that the new series would have done well if Eccleston stayed on past the 1st season.

we just say that the Doctor is bigger than any one actor. I liked Christopher - and because he is local I was able to interview him for the newspaper I work for - but I agree that Tennant has been amazing.
My own idea is for an actor called Kris Marshall, but the big money is on... Billie Piper.
Tennant anounced he was leaving on a live TV Awards show - you should have heard the audience noise, and I dropped my drink.

The guy I bought my house from left 2 brand new pay phones in a cabinet in the garage. I thought about hooking one of them up in the shop but we decided to go with just cell phones when we moved in this place and haven't looked back. If anybody is interested in them, make me an offer, pass me your zipcode and I'll see how much shipping would be. I would think that it wouldn't be hard to hook them up and bypass the coin insertion process and you'd have a nostalgic phone.

They won't work as is, they need a special card in the office. So it would either be non functioning, or you'd have to do something similar to what I did.

Reviving an old post here. I have one that I plan on refinishing and moving to the garage.
