Anyone got any ideas? I was thinking reflective spray paint that way the flash would over expose the plate #? All ideas are good as Arizona is getting crazy with these stand alone units and mobile units.. Thanks

Myth-busters tried all kinds of different items to counter photo-radar, including high speed (180+) Nothing worked. I don't know if they tried the plastic plate covers that "fuzz" out the image at just about every angle other then 90*.
That being said, I just got back from Chandler and found the speed limits on the freeway's to be more than generous. So, I've always told people to only take the amount of risk that they are willing to pay for.

The best way to avoid those tickets......don't speed.
And....if you apply anything over the plate to obscure the plate....you can get a ticket for that as well.....
I got a photo radar ticket in Winnipeg Canada about 2 years ago....9 MPH over the speed limit....and it cost me about $170....

Two ways to beat the camera-an extra tall trailer hitch or ball that obscures a digit or two or just tow a trailer all the time,they don't process some of them because they can't prove whose vehicle was towing it.

yea here in VA , you can get away with about 74 in a 65 , and that's good enough for me. and 60 in a 55 is good enough too.

Smear a little mud on the plate to obscure some of the numbers. Chances of getting pulled over for that are very slim.

I saw the mythbuster show twice and they tried everything with no luck.
Ddawg-your right on the ticket for obscuring the plate. Same in Ontario. You cant even have those clear plastic protection covers (that arent meant to obscure in the first place). As for Photo Radar, that came in years ago for Ontario and were banned shortly after. The challenge was it only got the plate and not the driver so the courts starting throwing them out. We do have some red light cameras that catch the driver and plate which holds up in court.

Don't believe everything you see on Mythbusters. Do you really think the Discovery channel's lawyers would allow them to show viewers how to break the law? It is an entertaining show but nothing more.

IF it's photo radar, a good radar detector is your best bet, (nothing better than a Valentine 1). But as always, any instant on radar can catch you if used properly. 90% of the time, police are too lazy to use instant-on units properly; either they constantly clock every car passing by, or they just leave them on. Either way, you get plenty of advance warning with a radar detector. The automated speed radar traps, I believe can only work by being left on....so plenty of warning for your radar detector.
Now Photo-laser....that's another story. Again a good radar detector will pick these up, but these are always instant on. The solution: The Passport Laser Jammer. AFAIK legal in all states, but obviously there are states that do not allow radar detectors.

Yep, but you have to spend good money for a good radar detector.
In the 4 years Ive had my V1, I havnt had one ticket.
Just last weekend it saved me 4 times, on a trip back from Seattle (to Moscow ID)
Riding the I-90, I was making good time. Traveling 95-105mph the entire way. Most of the traffic was doing 80-85, but was very thin. Speed limit was 70 mph.
My '89 SHO still averaged 26mpg the entire way

Someone I know highly recommend the GPS Angel Red light/speed camera alarm. He purchased one after receiving a bogus ticket from one of a car that he doesn't even own.

LOL. Mythbusters did this as well, except their solution was cooler- it had a plate on each side so it would roll to another- sort of James Bond style.
Angle your plates! I had my front plate stuffed on my dash and got hit with photo radar and the angle the plate was at reflected the light so bright you couldn't make out the numbers. It was dark out though. But they also sell angling plate brackets.

My wife got one here ( in Winnipeg )the beginning of May and it cost us $220! 6mph over. But I agree. Just don't speed!

So how does this actually work. Does it interfere with thr red light camaera or Does it just beep when it sees one?
I got one of those red light tickets last year on a right hand turn. First ticket that I have gotten in over 15 years. When you get the ticket in the mail it even has a link to the site in Arizona that has the actual video of what you were doing at the time the photo was taken.
It was 480.00 ticket.

i don't mind the photo radar we have as the vehicle is ticketed, not the driver, so no points or demerits on your licence..............we also just had a dust up with the provincial gov. over the use of photo radar on construction sites after the workers had gone home......like after midnite...........yea, thats gonna protect em when they're gone for the night...........and get this, they let the ones who didn't pay on time, off scott free, and the ones that did, tough luck...........funny how they went from 2000 tickets one year to over 50000 the next using this tactic..........

Why would you "not mind" if it's the car that gets ticketed? That just proves that the ticket was given for the sole purpose of revenue generation and not to "save lives".
I understand that the device has a built in data base of the locations of the camera. And relies on GPS to send off a signal... But the data base always needs updating as cameras are added around the country...

just fuzzing out any on the letter or plate will not work because there is software in the processing of the footage that can pull the plate number out by inferring the depth of plate stamping. The only way to not get on the tapes is flood the sensor of the camera with UV or High infrared. If you hit the plate with infrared they'll put the camera in a sub traction mode and read the plate do to infrared reflection scatter. So the only sure way is not to speed.

In Australia...the obstruction of a number plate brings a $308.00 dollar fine and 3 points off the license (12 points total) [three years before you get the points back]lose all 12 points and lose the licence for 6 months. yay
