I am stuck with a DSL connection that has 10MB download speed. Sometimes GJ loads slowly, and it appears that it is photos that cause this. Some load faster than others.

I wonder if the photo files vary in size. I always resize photos I post to the old maximum of 1000 pixels high. I don't know how to determine the size of photos posted by others, so I'm just guessing that the files are much larger for the ones that load slowly.

Is there a setting I can use to limit the size of the photo files as they download? Sometimes it is like dial-up!

Computer or mobile device?
Current browser?
Some providers can bond a pair and increase your speed. Depends on provider and wiring.

I tried on my normal Duckduckgo and Chrome with similar results. Since I posted, our phone line developed noise, and the technician put in an order to have a new section of underground line trenched in. I'll wait and see if that helps. I'm further from the DSLAM than they recommend, so it is marginal, at best. We can stream movies with little problem, but that is about it.

I'm used to it, but 10MB would be way fast. I'm lucky to get 1/2 that.
Takes a long time to up load photos too.
A video... usually just errors out.

I haven't tested for sure, but the "size" only impacts the display of the image. I believe the full photo is uploaded either way and it's constrained in the thread by the "display size" but browsers are loading the full content. This thing allows png, so you'll have to get with the rest of the high speed internet program eventually.

If you actually want to know "why" things load slowly, open dev tools on your browser and look at the "net" tab. It'll tell you exactly what the timing is on page load. I ain't complaining, I'm getting what I pay for.
