Went to Ebay a few days ago to check out some Craftsman metric hex bit socket sets (p/n 934448). You could tell by the classic grey container the sockets are mounted in with the faint Made in USA logo on the sticker. The seller also has a description of the set and made no reference as to the country of origin.

Promptly emailed the seller and asked him if they are Made in USA or Made in China. He responds stating, "made in China but with lifetime warranty".

Replied to his email and stated that I thought it was misleading and unethical and that I was going to report it to Ebay.

I don't take to kindly to the ol' bate-n-switch, especially on tools.

That picture is so fuzzy, no one would be able to tell what it says. I think you are over reacting. When you asked about COO he told you. He has multiples, maybe some are USA?

I purchased a Craftsman bottle opener on Ebay that was shown in made in USA packaging, but showed up Chinese. I told the seller I wanted a refund and to issue a return label.......he apologized and gave me a refund and said to keep it. He said he used a generic image online and didnt notice the COO on the packaging. I figure if I ever get around to selling it I will PayPal him the proceeds. It seems trivial, but I wanted it to say USA on it.

You're reporting Sears too, right? It's only fair since they do the same thing on their site.

You asked and he told you. What's the problem?

Recently purchased a craftsman metric long ball hex socket set. Description said made in the USA, pic was blurry specially where the COO was. Set came in and was made in China. I returned them for a full refund, seller claimed he had multiple sets, some china some US.

I sent the seller a message. You guys can accept the "bait & switch" if you want to but I would have also seen the old style package and bought it assuming it was USA old stock. Upon receipt I would have promptly opened a case through Ebay as "Item not as described" and I would win. Not to start the same old same old, USA vs China rant but there are alot of us who do care about COO and what this seller is doing is intentionally deceptive.

The problem in my mind is the seller has been made aware of it and yet he hasn't fixed it. That kind of makes it intentional deception at this point.

As has Sears...yet we still buy from them, right? I'm not debating that if he received China then he shouldn't be able to return them. My point is that this problem of generic pictures or pictures of a different item runs rampant on eBay and other websites. Why pick this particular one to complain about?

Is it ok for me to sell Chinese made Morgan Silver dollars on Ebay as long as I hold my thumb over the word "copy" when I take the picture ? Not into arguing but I see the difference as being pretty simple. Sears is a huge corporation. They can't change a roll of toilet paper in the mens room without having meetings about it, consulting their lawyers, etc. Pointing out a deceptive picture to a smalltime Ebay seller and then having him leave it anyway is a bit different.

Sounds like over reacting. It doesn't say USA as coo. He told you, you are out no money. Big deal. I sell a lot on eBay and people that tattle tale everything like that is nonsense. Its not like he advertised USA made and sent you Chinese knockoff, that would be worthy of a report but not this.

WOW, not even close to the same. Sears sold both Chinese and American versions. To the general population they are the same, maybe not to a tool junky, maybe the seller doesn't even really understand. It isn't like he put EVOLVE tools into a Craftsman package. Does sears have a different part number for the USA made versus the Chinese ones?

I don't see that the seller did anything wrong. I don't see anything that shows or implies USA on the link in your post.

You asked him specifically and he responded honestly.

Even Sears shows USA on some of their images even though COO is China. 99% of buyers don't care.

Obviously you do care and got the data you were after so move on.

It's impractical for sellers with multiples of the same SKU to create a unique image/unique listing for each and every one.

I'm not into arguing either. Just making my point and moving on. I see your point. Hopefully mine was made and well. :)

Did the picture change, looks like a generic picture with no COO listed.

Yes he changed the picture. Probably after all the GJ COO psychos went after him, he decided it would be better to not show the picture that had them so up in arms. This is all meant with love and kindness to all who feel offended.

I'm not seeing it swc1991. Most USA made stuff is clearly marked or described as the USA moniker is a strong selling "feature". When the USA moniker is missing/not specified, it typically means the item is made elsewhere.

The seller did not mark or describe either way that I can see.

picture of original hex head socket set on sellers Ebay posting. Definitely not the made in China packaging.

Looks like Seller did the right thing and changed the picture to that of one which now is not misleading to those of us who take pride in our Made In USA tools.
