Pick and pay junk yard

Someone is occasionally asking for pick and pay locations. Saw one while going into St Louis on I 64. It is on the North side of I 64, maybe 20-30 minutes from the Mississippi river. Looks large but I didn't have any reason to stop.

Those places are gold mines! I needed a parking brake adjuster for my Dakota that was discontinued and wasn't available anywhere. I pulled in and walked out into the field of rusting machines and had my part in no time. Some of the cars looked like they were attacked with a chainsaw or worse. A cool place to go on walkabout...

I used to go to one every few months. Once I struck up a conversation with a couple of guys that were disassembling a motor. Just for fun and education. Hours of entertainment for only a buck

I think the popularity of those places has ruined some of the benefit. The U-pull-it by me has some pretty high pricing. I've even come across prices that were as high as a new aftermarket part. Point it out to them and they'll drop the price, but still...

I may have done that on occasion. Ours is $2.50 though.

I needed to take apart the dash and front trim on my F350. I couldn't find all the clips to save my life. I also needed a new seat belt tensioner. I found a near identical truck at the local pick and pull and grabbed the seat belt tensioner. While I was there, I stripped the dash. I ended up breaking a couple of clips, but figured out how it came apart. Once I did that taking mine apart was flaw less.

I stay away from the LKQ yards for just that reason.

The pick 'n pulls more local to me are more reasonable. I used to make a run to them every month or so to pull desirable Nissan Hardbody/Pathfinder parts which I then flipped on a forum I belonged to. I always sold stuff for a reasonable price and still turned a decent profit. Not a bad way to get tool/beer money.

Its about 5 minutes from the river, right by the 55 interchange. I think exit 8 is the one you want.

Larry Flints hustler club and club hollywood are right next to it.

I had a buddy that repaired/flipped a lot of Audis back in the late 90's. Some of the parts prices were nuts. He knew what parts he would often need. He would take a trip to a U pull it yard once a month. When he found a new Audi that came in he stripped it. All the stuff that commonly broke he took. He saved tens of thousands of dollars. Stupid stuff like power window switches that Audi wanted $25 each for he got for a dollar or two...

PYP around here in socal usually have a 50% off day a few times a year, that's the time to go for huge savings. You never know what you will find there.

Our PnP charges much lower prices on Sundays. I suspect the owner isn't around that day.
