I'm no hammer guru, so lemme pick your brains! Rubberized handle, solid old looking construction, but can't find any markings or symbols or names anywhere. Heads 7 inches long, 1 inch wide. 11.5 inches overall. Looks like it has a specific use, I'm just not sure what it is. If it were heavier, I'd say tire hammer. Maybe for horseshoeing??

Are you sure the head isn't marked? In your close-up image one gets the hints of an imprint.

Getting the rust off down to bare metal will probably reveal a maker name. Given that the wood handle goes through an eye in the head (presumably), I wouldn't soak the head in EvapoRust, but would wire-wheel the rust off.

If you're concerned about the wire wheel damaging the wood where it enters the head, cut a strip from a soda can — easy with ordinary scissors — and tape the strip around the wood right below the head. That'll protect the wood.

Good luck!
