I bought this Miller Syncrowave 180 SD off of Craigslist yesterday for $750, because I've wanted the use of an occasional tig machine and thought it was a pretty good deal. Tested it out stick welded a little before I bought it and it seems fine. It hasn't been used much and I don't think the tig has been used more than a couple of times. What do you guys think of the machine in general?

I used one quite a bit back in the day. Nice Machine but larger and a lot heavier than the investors.

Good price, looks clean.

Good solid machine, you can't hurt it. I bought an Diversion to use in the second shop because of lower current draw, I think I like the arc on the Syncro better.

When I taught welding we had several 180SD machines. I found the 180 to be a very reliable and easy to use machine.
You got a good deal on a good welder.

Solid machine, fair price. Some of them had board problems. Just keep it clean inside. With the competitive pricing of the smaller inverters, the smaller transformer machines really get knocked down on used value. Better than the econotig and diversion IMHO, next step would be a used 200.

It's a good 3/16 and under machine, but the ability to run stick is a real plus. Not as fancy as the inverters with the fixed frequency, but still very capable.

I wanted a smaller machine like this in my new shop to use along side my 211 I have there, because I can go next door to my old shop building and use the bigger machines if I have a bigger project. To be honest, those bigger projects are becoming fewer and far between.

I have had mine for 10 years. YOU got a KILLER deal !! That's the newer 180 and at that price with all the accessories you stole it. The Econotig machines which are not the best sell for more. You did REALLY WELL !!

I'm going to have to say that you **** if and only if you have the power to run it and all the functions work. The older machines have a great arc, but are power hungry. If any of the control boards are bad, they cost 2x what you paid for the machine if you can find them. Other then that, you will love it.

This is worth some risk and they can be fixed but my money is on the fact he can use this a good long time. The reason I would even bother with tig outside of real paying job/work would be a bit of aluminum and this makes it all affordable. If a guy doesn't have a stick machine this would be as good as any in a shop. Score some lead so you don't have to move it. Make a home for the thing, it will run from a standard welding circuit but I am not much for shared stuff if I don't have to and I think this can use 60A breaker if you need to scream it wide open.

Picked up one for 1000 a few years ago. Solid machine for all my hobbyist needs. Ended up letting it go to a friend when I was moving.

Good Score!
