picked up a 30 gal kobalt compressor

got it off cl, paid $150. I need to get two rubber feet for it and a new regulator because it leaks. I have a 33 gal craftsman oil less now and the kobalt is so much quieter. had some nasty looking water left in it though. anyway, how long should it take to fill up? this is my first belt driven unit, how do you adjust the belt tension? going to use it for a while to see how I like it before I get rid of the craftsman.

Usually to adjust the belt tension you loose the bolts on the motor and scoot it over. Better to have someone help you. Also make sure you keep it square and in-line with the pump.

Adjust belt tensions by loosening the motor mount bolts and sliding the motor over. If you time the fill time we can give you a value on what it is putting out. One tip is to reduce the cut out pressure down to ~130psi instead of the factory 155psi. The extra 25psi, is just extra wear tear and heat you don't need. If you time it in intervals of 10psi from 0 to full and then plot the results you will see a drastic change in the slope once it gets past ~125psi. Another victory of marketing. :thumbup:

I'd give the oil a good drain flush and fill with a good 30wt ND since it is new to you. Just for piece of mind.

i'll try to do that later today. any idea how long it should take? when I went to look at it it seemed to take forever standing in the guys garage, but it may have just been awkward silence lol. I'd guess about five or six minutes maybe.

Nice compressor! I looked forever on craigslist for something similar, but never found anything. I finally found a Craftsman Professional 27 gallon in store "refurbished" for $300. BTW I have an Ingersoll Rand regulator/filter in the classifieds if you are interested….end shameless plug!

The more accurate the input info, the more accurate the results. What was the start and stop pressure? Time it in increments of 10psi from 0psi to full and I'll plot you a chart across the entire pressure range. Probably around 6.5-7cfm avg over the output range.
