Hey all been lurking awhile and value all of your opinions, was at a garage sale and found this little guy. He was frozen solid and after smacking him around a bit i was able to get him all apart. He was only five bucks, he is a 4 incher right? He's small, but should work for the other bench in my shed, heres another question i like the original color on him but would like to repaint anyone have an idea of what color i should go with, or just paint it whatevers in the cabinet. Pics for your enjoyment:

Just refurbed that same vise for a buddy of mine:

I used electrolysis and then left it bare "vintage" look, as he requested. Just some light oil to coat it for rust prevention.

Cool little vise!

measure the jaw width for size, looks like possibly a 3" but pics can be deceiving. as for paint, I'd go with your garage theme colors first, or whats in the cabinet if you're on a budget like me, good score!

I've got a few vices but none of them are all that cheap. If i smack it around some i can even get more than 4 inches. ;)

Snap on extreme green powder coating :) or vintage look is a little more sensible...

I have the same one...sort of....I agree with nine4.....it does look like a 3" and I think mine is a 4".

Mine 'almost' looked that bad.....soaked all the parts in vinegar for a day or two....used a 3m scratch pad to rub clean.....

This is what it looks like afterwards with just WD40 to protect it.

My suggestion would be to clean it using a wire brush, spray it with Rust-Oleum Rusty Metal Primer and paint it a color you like.

Thanks for all of your advice and your dirty jokes lol...guess i could of worded that differently...if i cant match the paint close i think the bare vintage look is pretty cool...may go that route anyway.

I think that's a darn nice little vise. But you should watch out for those cheap "vices."

Anyway, after the poor joke, I think the rust is a little heavy for vinegar. Might want to get down on that lil' sucker with a wire wheel.

there is "no" such thing as a useless tool !! the man makes the tool..... think about it, having all the high $ tools in the world can't make a mechanic, the man behind the tool is what makes the tool "worth". there's alot of tools on this site that look new or un-used, i know alot of mechanic that have tools older than i am and look like hell (and steal work as good as new) that have built the world and well last long after some of the new tools that cost more than they're worth.... they don't make the man a mechanic. this is a great little vise, just give it a try, some paint, a little grease....... that's a great little vise !!!!!!!!
