picked up a Columbian vice today

I picked up a Columbian D45-M4 today, even though it may not be a true industrial vice it still weighs around 40-50lbs and it is USA made. Considering it is in great shape and only cost me $30 I could not say no, as I have been needing a vice for awhile.

Seriously, it weighs that much? I would have guessed around 30 lbs....

For light duty use around a home, that little vise will do the job.

probably one of the best utility style vises out there...

Lawnboy: even though it might only weigh 25-30 pounds (did you weigh it), that vise will do most any job you ask it to. looks like it's pretty much ready to go, but like i mention to most new vise owners maybe a quick cleaning and new grease and do that every year or two.

also if you want to keep the crud and debris from your work from getting inside the vise you might want to lay down an oily or even a clean rag on the slide when you are working on stuff in it's jaws and just shake out the rag after you finish.

I have 2 of those. This is what Home Depot used to have on the shelves in 1996-1998.

A cast vise but mine have held up to some pretty heavy use/abuse in my home shop.

didn't realize they were that new, paid 15 for one a couple years ago, just checked in the garage lol, had forgotten all about it!

That vise will serve you well. I had a 4-1/2" Craftsman (which I'm sure was made by Columbian) that was my only vise for 20 plus years.
