I just happened to see this free workbench listed on FB.

Woman put it out on the curb but no one was taking it so she put it on FB.

I messaged her to hold it for me and I would give her $20 if it was there when I got there. She kinda held it, so it cost me $20.

Said it was her fathers and he worked in an industrial steel plant and they got it from an old HS.

I've been sorta keeping an eye out for one of these for a while.

I was hoping they never flipped it over, but they did, The "top" is in good enough shape for me to use. But the patina on the other side is awesome!

Lot of miles on this old piece of wood!

The base is junk, I'll get better pics when I take it off.

Side bar, how do you like your HEM saw?

So far, A lot. I have not cut much with it yet. Just some small tube and mostly conduit for the shop that is still under construction. I almost bought a chop saw, but I like how quiet and clean this is for now until I get a designated cutting spot.

That bench is beautiful - brought me back to high school. I think I'd marine varnish the original top and put it face up again... LOTS of history in that hunk of wood!

Same here, I had shop classes in middle school that used the same table.

Thing is heavy! And hard as a rock.

I remember that one. I carved my initials on the edge. It had a locker base and vices on all four corners. I see that one has the dog holes so the vices went some where else.

Yup, that's it, they call them 4 station work benches.

The holes are there on all four corners for the vices.

The romantic hills of central Umbria, Italy,
Someone somewhere has the lockers that that thing sits on and bolts up to... then you need the undermount wood vise that matches the old hardwood or metal dogs... (then you need the old canvas shop teacher apron... just don't think you also have to mill off a digit or 2...)

And BTW - I just showed that to my other half, we both agree with the "YOU ****" on that score! Nicely done, and if I could find one of those somewhere... :D

I think I have a vise that should mount just fine.

Yeah, the base is junk. Just leaving it on for now so I can roll it around.
