I've been eyeing this for sale on Facebook for a couple weeks and picked it up today for $60. It started at $250 but was described as brand new condition, which it's not. Anyway the kid was about 18 and had pulled it out of a scrap pile when he was working in an oil field. He's selling some stuff to buy himself a recliner, ha ha.

It has a little surface rust, and has more play than I would have thought. It's missing one of that handles on the hold down screw, and the smaller bar on the cross piece pictured is slightly bent. It definitely needs some cleaning underneath and a good lubricant, so I have some reading to do.aa0673390f81d7015ea7e87aabfe3661.jpg28758a09e27b14022071625dac50ffe1.jpgc12f22ad5d9c07f955f86eda12d229b8.jpgaef5a384e6735b53fc1f2fa16f763fd3.jpgba95d9dbd95b74266123e1c5e9e4e84e.jpgb12edae99da4e9cefa0a0508574a9a6f.jpg

I saw the first picture you posted and I noticed there was no swivel base, so I thought it was only a double YOU ****! purchase, but then I saw the swivel base in your other pics so now it's a quadruple YOU ****!
Yeah it's there. Too bad about the missing handle but it should be easy to replace. On first look I can only get the entire screw assembly, and that in pairs, so I may have to go that route but I'll be in this for very little. I wasn't looking for this type of vise, but I think I'm gonna love it.

I marked the most likely place to find a small crack in my picture. If it does crack the crack will follow either the red path or the green path I have marked. If there is nothing wrong with your vise in that location (on both sides) everything else should be fine. They could probably eliminate that minor weak link completely if they wrapped the welds around the corner of the plate steel in that location, but they choose to run a more simple straight weld and end it bluntly instead.
Thanks for the great info! I found the adjustment screw and this thing is as tight as a funeral drum now. It's a 5 mm hex incidentally. Also, I checked the spot you pictured, there may be a crack, but I really think it's just a tool mark. Hard to tell for sure, but there's a definite tool mark just below it.f3c6ff3df2468743440262e594876853.jpgbce22f6bfafa9f054aa054c23af90d4b.jpg
