Not sure how rare these are, but I see a lot of 50's Craftsman equipment with the incorrect motors. Got this at a swap meet for $20. Figured that it will not hurt to have a spare. 1/2 HP CRAFTSMAN 1953 vintage. Runs quiet and smooth.

Good deal, just a heads up though. When looking for common power tool motors, stay with 1725 RPM motors as they are typically more versatile. 3450 RPM motors are usually only fitting to table saws, jointers and the like that require a higher spindle RPM.

YF: that looks like a nice looking motor. did you plug it in to see if it works or how it runs? those usually have the date they were made stamped on the motor's badge and i see a F3 53 or what is the F3? could be a March 1953, but would need another picture or you tell us if you see a month and date on the motor. it isn't critical and just for matching the right tools with the motors so you can look in the Craftsman catalogs for the match.

nice find.

Wow! I am envious...I recently purchased a craftsman alien head planner with the wrong motor. I am in the process of getting it back to optimal condition and I've been searching craigslist for motors. Lucky dog!

You got a Steal there. I just bought the 1/3 HP, it was $40+ Jig Saw. They only made the 1/3HP for a couple years, so it is a rare find. I have the 3/4HP version as well on my 1948 Craftsman Table Saw.

:) no worries mate! I'm still cleaning the planer. That motor looks like it is for a dual purpose, like a grinder. I would prefer the 3450 rpm motor and a 2.5" sheave as opposed to the 1750 rpm pulley and a 5" sheave.

I seriously need to get out more! $20!
