Disassembled it and noticed there is no spring to be found. It seems to work just fine and smooth. Should this vice have a spring? Only paid 20 bucks for it so I won't complain if I need to find a spring. Thanks, Joe.

What would you expect said spring to do? Most springs I've seen, but on very few vises, are buried underneath to keep lash out of the screw. Without seeing a disassembled one, I would not know if it had one.

Well seeing this thing is over 100 years old I thought maybe the spring got removed from the screw at some point...I'm not that familiar with vintage vises. At the end of the screw is a collar that sits on the screw end and a set screw to hold said collar in place.
