Says snap on but not sure if it really is, doesn't matter much to me if it is or isn't tbh. I was loony around for one of these for a while, I saw this one on CL and pulled the trigger.

I don't plan on doing much, there is a dent on the bottom left that is making the bottome drawer a little hard to open do I have to hammer that out. And obviously the handle and lock assy is missing (anyone on here have either of these? Or can anyone point me in the right direction on where to find one?$, other than that, the box is solid. I plan on making it my travel box when I drive long distances.

Anyone know where to find any ser #s or date codes on these?

Another pic, I'm cleaning it up right now and taking the drawers out.

Yep, indeed, KRA58 from the ~70's I'd guess. Check the back it is stamped on the back panel model and year. What was the price if you don't mind?

What is the CTC on the handle mount holes? They used two different ones. The more modern one is square-ish and has a longer CTC mount. They still sell that from snap on for <$5. The older, rounded ones are a bit more difficult to find. You can buy a new lock from them as well, but I would probably check ebay 1st. Depending on the year it may have a Y series or just a 4 digit (larger face diameter) lock.

I recently found one like that, except it has one of the groups of two little drawers replaced with a single deeper drawer, and it has the underlined Snapon logo instead of the black background logo.

It's in fair shape, and I got it as part of a lot of other stuff that I needed at a moving sale, so it cost more than free, but not a lot more.

Sounds like you got a good deal with the bottom finds. Unfortunately that takes the older style rounded sheet metal handle. I don't think snap on makes them anymore, only the later squared off handle which is ~4" CTC and part number 8-6033A, I think. I'm not a fan of the sheet metal handles anyways; so maybe try to find one you like that will fit :dunno:

I have that stubby 3/8 FK whatever as well. Much much better feel on the hand than the equivalent Dual80 with that stupid flare bottom.

Anyways, the stamp on your KRA58whateverleter should be on the bottom right corner. Take a flashlight to it on an angle and maybe it'll pop up.

Look at collecting snapon site as well.

Take a look on the left or right side near the bottom for a model number and a mfg. date. Maybe a KR58. Look hard, get some grease / dirt remover that might help.

So far I've managed to remove the drawers and clean/degrease everything, I'm going to use some rubbing compound and polish it up as soon as I get the dent to wee it doesn't interfere with the bottom drawer anymore.

Next step is obviously tracking down the lock/lever assy and maybe make my own handle.

Take some up close pics of the lock rod contact points. Are there holes in the sides as well as the slot in the bottom? The later boxes only had holes in the sides and did away with that bottom engagement point. Which if you order a new lock rod from snap on (~$15 IIRC) it will only engage on the sides.

I'm curious how smooth the friction slides are once you clean and lube them up.

Very smooth, if straight. It is best to use a good wax for lubricant.

Everything is straight now, I was actually thinking of use some sort of wax, what type do you recommend? If not wax, I plan on using some good ol super lube.

The ox looks great, has a nice used look to it but still looks like a tank. My dad is already itching to buy it off me. Lol...
