Picked up my first SO box.

I currently have 2 HF44's. Ive been looking for the right deal on a third and final box. I really needed something with full width drawers of decent depth for some of my bigger tools. I finally came across this nice clean 10 year old SO KRA4107 on CL. Picked it up for $700. It's nice to finally be able to put all my tools away without feeling like I'm playing Tetris.

Too much 2" drawer stuff in the 4" drawers

Tools have a way of multiplying faster then toolbox space.

As someone who had owned both the single bank 4107 and the double bank 4813, the 4107 wins hand down. The full width drawers will handle so much more vs those tiny drawers of a normal 40 incher.

I know its just a matter of time before one of the HF Fan Boys says it, so I'll beat em to it...for the same money you could have had 2 of the 44's.

Very true, but keep in mind those boxes are setup for a specific purpose. I'm sure majority of the members here could fit the same amount of tools in a hand carry box. But you can't deny the cleanliness.

I curious about the first hand side by side build quality differences. Maybe the quality was the driving factor

Good stuff I got the same box.

You could rearrange the drawers you if want. Have a 4" drawer at the top and drop the 2" drawers down.

Tis true. I did fine with the same bottom, in red, for maybe six years. Last year I added a used double bank top to it and found an old side locker. Now everything has a home of its own again.

They are good little boxes. I've had zero issues with mine. Good price on yours, by the way.

To answer some of the questions....I plan to put a MDF top on it. I had to move a grinder on a pedestal to make room for the box and plan to put the grinder back on top.

As to the quality comparison with the HF44, I really haven't had a chance to really look over the build quality of the SO box. It is very smooth for a 10 year old box.

As to why I didn't just buy 2 more HF44's.......Despite the fact that I own 2 already, I hate buying anything made in China. I was working out of an old *** Craftsman box that was too small and needed to upgrade. I'm not a professional mechanic and a new truck box just wasn't in my budget. Despite Mickey O's claims, I couldn't find a decent deal on a truck box over a long time period. So I picked up a HF44.

This time around I wasn't quite as desperate and found this deal after about 6 months of looking. I like the full width drawers and the fact that it's made in Canada.

Gotcha Yea and I didn't mean my comment in a "you can't read" type deal but wondering along the same lines you were as to why the selection was made after having first hand experience with the HF boxes.

Completely understandable. I was just curious if quality was a driving factor and how they compared on a end use basis, not just first impressions. After you get some time on the new box I'd be interested to hear your thoughts between the two.

You may want to reconsider placing a grinder on top of the box though. If you happen get abrasive dust in the slides it will be like lapping compound and wear them out in short order. Just something to think about.
