I really didn't know much about Mayhew tools. I had heard them mentioned on here but really didn't pay much attention.

About 2 weeks ago I was in my local Home Depot and noticed a 3 piece set of their Dominator pry bars for 45 bucks. They seemed very sturdy and had striking caps on the ends. They are also made in the USA. I picked them up on a whim.

I brought them home and on a closer look really became impressed with them from a price to value standpoint. I took a look on the HD website to see what other Mayhew items they had.

I ended up ordering a hook and pick set, a heavy duty scraper, and a six picece screwdriver set. The hook and pick set was 31 bucks. The scraper was 13 bucks. The screwdrivers were 35 bucks.

Today they showed up at the house. Again I was really impresed with the quality for the prices. All the handles have striking caps and they are nice and beefy and feel good in my hand. The screwdrivers have bolsters on them and are very hefty.

The hook and pick set and the scraper are USA made. I was a little disappointed to see that the screwdrivers were made in Taiwan. They are from their Select line and not their Pro line like the other items, so I guess that's the difference in the COO.

Overall I would definitely recommend Mayhew tools. If you were like me and never really noticed them, check them out. I think you will be impressed.

Here are some pics.

I can't really comment on longevity as I just got them today, but the initial quality looks very good.

I have the strike-able gasket scraper and that thing is a beast. It has held up to some serious abuse.

I also have their 5 pc cold chisel set that comes in a pouch, no issues there. Also just got the 30" die separating prybar, it does its job.

Edit: I'm jealous, there is no Mayhew at HD around here. They have a very limited selection at TSC, which is where I got the scraper and cold chisels

Striking caps on picks makes me wonder how many of them are just for show. Have you beat on any of those screwdrivers?

Mayhew makes some quality tools. I have a bunch including the striking pry bars which are a deal.

I believe Mayhew is the OEM for many high end pry bar brands, including Williams and possibly Snap-On. They also make Chisels and punches, and are likely an OEM for these as well.

I have a bunch of their punches, drifts, and cold chisels.
It's all good stuff.
Made in USA, and the price is definitely right.
Fit and finish on some of them is a little rough off the shelf, but not a surprise and not a dealbreaker for the price. E.g. burrs left from machining/turning operations on some of the chisel facets - nothing a lick from a file can't take off

The only bad is they're 20 minutes from me and don't have a factory store !
Back in the 90s, before they moved to Miller Falls from Buckland, and I moved to NJ from Shelburne side, Mayhew wasn't even a mile away. They didn't have a store then, either. :(

I have Dominator pry bars. I particularly like the straight ones. Also solid punches, brass punches and assorted other single items. All good stuff.

I haven't received anything that I was unhappy with from them yet (other than the pilot punches that were not straight). If COO concerns you, one must check now as some stuff of their products are being imported.

I’ve heard plenty of good about the prybars, Matco rebranded mainly. But I’ve heard complains about punches, roll pin punches to be specific. I’ve heard people aren’t fans of those.

I recall Craftsman used to rebrand those picks, my dad had a set and hated them. They broke, easily all the time, I think he finally threw them away. One he was tired of them breaking. Two he was tired of dealing with Sears.

The scrapers I’ve never used. But I’ve seen mixed reviews. Some people say they’re great. Other people say they’re not that great. Not sure. I’ve got a few Wilde scrapers myself, and Wilde rebranded Craftsman. They’re ok.
