Got this little backhoe attachment from my brother. Lines are leaking what looks like a strawberry milk shake. I'm gonna R&R most of the lines.
Remove and clean the pivot pins. Change the grease zerks. Change the filter and hydro fluid and give her a go !

Backhoe has been sitting unused for maybe 15 yrs. Can't figure out why the hydro leaking from hose or hoses is this red color.
At this point fluid is to low to show on tractor dip stick.

The "strawberry milk shake" leakage could be a bigger problem!
In a hydraulic system milk shake look is water. The tractor can get water in the system thru torn shift boots if left outside or vapor cycles but the hoe isn't going to. After the oil is changed the problem is solved from the contamination point of view.

The pink is either atf (which is a hydraulic fluid so it wont hurt much) or more likely has dye added to it to find leaks. Very common in the industrial world and i have seen it in construction equipment as well.

Ok I googled it. Not unusual for hydro oil to be red. Just don't remember it being red going in last time I changed tractor hydro fluid.

Get ready for sticker shock when you start replacing those hoses. Make sure you purge the old oil in cylinders so you don’t contaminate fresh oil in tractor when you drain it. Make sure you change the hydraulic filter also. Just don’t go and put any old cheap oil back in. Get something good from New Holland or CaseIH. Hytran or TCH are good. John Deere has a good tractor hydraulic fluid. Even Dexron will work.

Had six lines made up so far. was around 45 ft of line. Napa auto parts $576 plus tax. I'm thinking $40 filter, $200-300 for 5-6 gals hydro-oil. I have changed it several times so I know its pricy.

lund please be assured backhoe is of age. Not that kind of person, would never even cross my mind and even if it did I still would not do that sort of thing.
