I just got a new to me 2014 ram 1500 crew cab. It came with the soft tonneau cover. I typically carry a breaker bar, small socket set, tire kit, how straps, ratcheting the down straps, a blanket, tape measure, air pressure gauge, a few other things I can't seem think of right now. My question to you guys out there with pickups: What kind of bed storage do you have and why?

I've got the crew cab with the 5'7" bed. I dont see any good place to keep the tools in the cab so I have to do something with the bed. I've looked at the wheel well options, both behind the rear wheel and over the rear wheels, under tonneau box and straddle boxes. The straddle box would require a new tonneau which I really don't want to buy right now.

Let me know what your solutions are.

If it is like my 2005 Dakota there is a lot of space under the back seats. Small tools are in a soft bag on the shaft tunnel.

There is some storage under the driver side rear seat but the car seat that's installed makes it unusable. I'd have to remove the car seat to access it and that's just a pain.

my truck is a std cab long bed.
"extra" tools are stashed behind the passenger seat on top of the factory jack....
i dont carry much, a set of jumper cables, breaker bar/socket for the aftermarket lug nuts, a hammer, long screwdriver and a fire ext..

i dont even carry a strap and clevises in that truck anymore.

i used to carry all that stuff, and much more, in a crossover truck bed toolbox, but got tired of digging through everything, only to find what i wanted on the bottom...:shocking:

My stash boxes in the floor handle tons of straps and misc stuff. And under the back seat there's a couple Tool bags loaded with a boxed socket set 1/4"-1/2", wrenches, pliers and lots of other stuff. I just can't rap my head around why your having issues as the only things I can't stash is something longer than 4ft.

But since you already have the cover why not go for a below rail cross box.

My truck is an F150 extended cab with a 6-1/2' bed and, also, the soft tonneau cover.

The "expensive" tools, such as a small 3/8" drive socket set and misc combo wrenches, pliers and scredwrivers are kept in a black plastic Cman under-seat tool box beneath the rear seat. All the other stuff, tie-downs, small tarp, rope, drawbar, etc. resides in a big, inexpensive, el-cheap (about $25), wheeled plastic tool storage box similar to this:

It's waterproof, holds a lot, and is easy to remove if I need more space. If it ever "walks away" it won't be much of a loss.
