Am I just a picky A$$hole or what, but why do people post without proofreading their responses? hte is not the, real is not reel, rotery is not rotary, probly is not probally. etc. You get the idea, and yes I'm not the greatest speller in the world, I know but I do make an attempt at it. It is hard for me to read when there are so many spelling and grammer mistakes. Sorry for the rant!!! Let my bashing begin!

I decided a long time ago that if someone makes a post with no effort to spell correctly, use capital letters, or punctuate it, I just don't bother to read it or respond. There is really no reason in this world to struggle to read something that is barely literate. So, basically, I'm picky like you.

When there is a typo or single misspelling I can ignore it. When the post is half typos and its like trying to decrypt some secret code I skip it. I try to remember to run my posts though a spell check before I reply.

I proofread and still make stupid mistakes. Grammar errors do not bother me too much but run-on sentences without paragraphs are hell to read.

I can't tell you how many times I've WANTED to post about this subject too but always figured I'd get lambasted as an uptight.,..you guessed it...A-hole, so I just try to move on.

My personal bugga-boo? The words "then" and "than" are NOT interchangeable words....no, they're NOT!

My pet peeve:

I teach college courses that consist of 65% classroom instruction and 35% online work. My students email me a lot, as well as post responses in discussion threads. They have all grown up texting, and as a result, use many abbreviated versions of words, no punctuation, no capitalization, etc.

It is frustrating, although I choose my battles (I do not teach English). I do however tell them that it will not cut it when they are in the workplace....or applying/submitting resumes/interviewing to get into the workplace.

Trying to decipher CL ads makes reading this forum a breeze. Firefox will check spelling for you, my replies usually have 25% red lines under them. I take the 10 seconds of my life to correct it, some people are just so important they can't be bothered with it....

I think when you see words such as than or then misused, it is usually not from the lack of knowing the difference. I do it often but but it is usually from trying to type while thinking about what you are trying to say.

If am not concerned that much with little mistakes like that. This is a garage forum and not an Advanced English forum. As long as I can understand the question, than I am fine.

Hey guys, no need to loose your mind over this. Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhhhh I hate that. That's the problem with lazy people and spellcheckers. The word is "lose". I don't know how many times I've seen it spelled "loose" and it's clear the author was too lazy to check their grammar as opposed to their spelling.

We all have pet peeves. Things that, for some unknown reason just get under our skin. For me, it's when people say "RPM's" rather than "RPM". It's a little insignificant thing but drives me nuts. I keep it to myself (except when using it as an example) as it's really not important. I understand what DJ is saying. I appreciate proper spelling and sentence structure even though my own suffers. I DO try though. Someone mentioned that as long as the poster gets their point across, that's good enough. Perhaps. However, while it may not matter on a forum like this but it becomes a habit and as a society, we are becoming lazy and the english language as a whole is suffering. Just compare writings from the 18th or 19th century and you will see how far we've come....in the wrong direction.

Or, just paying attention in school would have made spell checkers useless. I hate browsers and web pages that annoy me with spell checkers. I've already wasted too much of my life trying to find ways to turn the spell checker off.
