Here are a couple of pictures of my final Big Maxx install. I had to go to a few hardware stores to find the correct flue pipe and through wall thimble. I also replaced my romex hookup cord with the correct appliance cord to make code. I also put on a new decal the right side up.

The heater seems to work great!

Finished the install last Saturday of my Big Max 45,000. It's nice and quite and took my little garage from 40° to 70° in about a half hour or so.
I'm happy, now I got to get going on putting my car back together.

I just finished installing mine, looks identical but it was "beacon moris brand", I have seen the same furnace with another name on them too !

I find it a little noisy, how is yours ? seems like a a lot of vibration when the fan kicks in. more than I like

Mine is pretty quiet, the exhaust fan makes some noise at times, I need to pull the cover off and make sure everything is tight on the fan.

Check yours for a loose access panel if it makes any noise. My unit is so quiet, you could stand next to it and talk on the phone without any noticable noise. I was actually very surprised at how quiet these units are.

Mine is still sitting in the box, I either need to farm the job out or get some days off.

Well, I couldn't take it anymore! I've got a HVAC guy coming over in the morning after I get off work. "Here put this in, I'm taking a nap.... :rocker: "

Yeah, I feel like a sell out but sometimes I get short on time so I support the local economy. The bottom line is I'll have heat in the shop and that's all that matters, right?

I am going to do a similar install. How far must the vent stack extend from the outside wall on the horizontal vent?

About this far :)

Seriously,

The installation manual says between 3 & 5 feet total length for the vent line, but I can't remember if it mentioned minimum distance from the wall.

Hi guys-

As a gas line novice, would you recommend that I DIY that part of then install or hire it out? I've done my own plumbing and eletrical work before with no disasters to date ;). Just dont give me the "if you have to ask, then no" line. I can read directions, usually do so BEFORE starting the project, and have a good sense of when something is right. WHY or why not?

thanks,
-Tom

You probably should have started a new thread rather than resurrecting one as old as this one but... ;)

I did everything except the gas hookup. I paid my gas supplier to do that part because I wanted it done to code and I'm not an expert on gas hookups and I needed them to supply the tank and such anyway. It only cost a bit more than what I'd have had to pay for the materials anyway and I had the peace of mind that one gets knowing it was done right.

Two things I noticed:

1) That vent termination cap looks just like the one I have for a vertical vent? Is that cap correct for a horizontal install?

2) Your power and what appears to be thermostat cords appear to be VERY close to the vent pipe. I'd route them well away from the vent and secure them to ensure they don't melt any wire insulation.

Otherwise, looks good and enjoy the toasty environment!

Just my .02,

Paul

You maybe talking to a ghost. Again, the OP hasn't posted to this thread in over 7 years or posted to this site in over 3.
