Hey All,

My Google-Fu is failing me.... I'm trying to locate a set of replacement jaws for this vise and can't seem to make any headway on my search.

The sites I've found referencing a "600" series Wilton usually show the ones with the bullet-shaped tail section. This one is completely flat on that tail side.

I have searched for a model number and/or serial number tag but can't seem to find any other markings on the vise. Any idea where I should look?

If anyone has a link to service parts or a details on what this vise actually is, I'd appreciate the help!!!

Thanks,

-G

To me it looks like one of these and is not a Wilton. I stole this pic from the very first page of the Vises of Garage Journal thread. There are probably a couple more of them in there.

Bummer.

Do you think the replacement jaws for a Wilton are likely to fit on a clone?

Are the jaw dimensions and hole spacings pretty universal?

Thanks!

Thanks for the help. Your comments lead me to the Vises of GJB thread..... only 178 pages of reading left to go!!!

My photos show both sides of the vise, and it doesn't say Taskmaster on either side. Just "Mechanic 600"... the Taskmaster does have the blunt end on it, and the overall shape does seem awfully close.

It's a good lead, so I'll see if I can find more images, etc.

I'm fairly certain that's NOT a Wilton. If you are interested in a set of replacement jaws, drop me a PM.

No prob. There have been a few Wilton knock offs. My guess is that yours was just the larger size of the one I posted.

You might want to just measure the jaws and contact this site to see if they match up:

I believe the the owner of this business is a Garage Journal member but I don't remember the name.

On a side note, here is another large Wilton knockoff that I saw once. I think the one I posted before looks a lot more like your's.

I am not familiar with your vise but I have been building jaws for the wiltonviseparts.net site and only have two sizes for the six inch Wilton models. Maybe my 6 x 1 x 5/8 thick might fit. Mine uses a 5/16 Cap Screw and the screw locations are 4" center to center. These jaws fit the 746 and also the 1760 Tradesman Vise's.

Thanks to all! :)

Let me take a closer look at the jaws that are on this vise when I get home tonight. I'll pull some dimensions of the overall size and hole spacing and post up what I find out.

Well, good news bad news I guess.....

The jaws appear to be a standard width (6") and are 1" tall, but the hole spacing is 3-3/4"..... Not 4".

I'm not sure how common this is to find... Or how expensive? The vise is a bit sloppy when I draw the jaws together.... The moveable jaw ends up slightly angled relative to the fixed jaw on the base, so I have to guide the jaws to be parallel as I clamp them together.

At this point, I guess I should really think carefully about whether I want to invest the time and money to fix up this "clone" vise, or just look around on Craigslist or GJB for a decent quality used vise that already works correctly and is in serviceable condition.

It's really to bad they did not match Wilton's or Colombians jaw dimensions, They are suppose to be replaceable. A custom jaw set would be expensive. I see this more and more. Good luck with your decision and a possible new vise for your collection.
