You mean a compact fluorescent light, or CFL. I personally haven't seen one that big in person, but depending on your situation they may work OK - CFLs may or may not like cold weather, and they generally aren't designed to be installed inside an enclosed light fixture. Also, some people don't like the color of light CFLs give off, but that's a personal preference - I have a couple 100 watt equivalent CFL bulbs in the desk lamps here in my office and I think they're fine.

I bought a 200w rated CFL it used like 40w or something. In the 8' celing it was so bright that I had to sheild my eyes when I walked in the shop.

New guy here... My dad installed these in his shop after I sent him a link to this to try out. All he had was Keyless light fixtures up and was planning on doing quite a bit more. He runs a cabinetry business out of a 60x40. I think in the whole shop he has 12 or so of these. They put out enough light just that way to keep him happy. He and I didn't know what to think of them. After getting them up and on they work well.
As far as the cold, his main heat was a small propane heater that sits on top of the tank, so it was cold when we tried them. Took them about 5-10 mins to warm up.
They do work well if you ask me.

This has been beat up here before a couple of times. One or two of our members have installed sockets and reflectors and used 105 watt (actual) CFL's that are the equivalent of 500 watt incandescent lights. They reported to be pretty happy with them.
