Pill Bottles

What to do with them? Seems lately, been regularly tossing them. And with surgery next week (yippee), I'll have more.
Any ideas on reuse? Jah, I already do the baby jar screw thing. Yes, I have Plano tackle boxes. Yep, I have a pair of old 'punch card' data file steel cabinets. Pill jars are kinda small, 2 1/2''ish tall, 1''ish dia.

The only thing I use them for is keeping weights that I don't already have in my frying pan in my tackle box.

Store any kind of small things you need to store.

I do woodworking. I have lots of tiny #2 and #3 screws. Small bottles are a great way to keep them sorted.
I grow my garden as organically as possible, and I keep my own seeds from non-hybrid plants. Again, the small bottles are perfect.
My Wife does wood carving and wood inlay work. The small bottles are perfect for storing tiny pieces of veneer so they don't bet broken or lost.

These are only 3 of about a million uses. Just look at your interests and find a way to use them.

Check with local organizations. Our church collects them and turns them over to a free health clinic that reuses them.

Odd that you call them "half moon keys" and not "Woodruff Keys" like we do in the UK, as they were designed by Mr Woodruff (an American)

rslaback seems to have a good idea, although I'm not a member of any congregation
I buy nuts/bolts/screws washers in box lots. they are in the steel file cabinets.
stacons - in klein compartmental boxes.
Misc. small quantites in baby food jars - in steel file cabinets.
Brass fittings - cantilevered tackle boxes.
seeds - great idea.
anyone here interested?

I probably have 100 of them. All shapes and sizes.. They really come in handy! Everything from holding small parts during a rebuild to storing batteries

tip to get the adhesive off on the bottles.
scrape the label off with a plastic scraper.
put some baby oil on a scotchbrite pad and rub.
The adhesive will come right off.

I used to use them for air rifle targets. When they are empty, with the lid on, they are fairly top heavy, which gives an impressive flip up in the air, when you hit it with a pellet.

Or just throw them in some hot soapy water and later that day or whenever just give it a swipe with your thumb and they should come right off.

I live in New Jersey, which I think makes me a 'merican too, or so I'm told.

Any way, I've never heard of Woodruff keys being referred to as "half

moon keys" either. Must be a colloquial thing.

Tannerite targets (exploding targets) for the range. Mix a container of Tannerite and fill pill bottles. Smaller target and less "boom" when hit, but more targets and more challenge to hit them

When I take something apart I put the hardware in Pill bottles. Some tooling is stored inside. Carry my change in one in my pocket as well.

I have one I store old watch batteries in. Most have silver content in them and I turn them into the local gold buying place once I fill them up. Just changed out some in my digital mic, a/c temp. gauge for the vents.

Can't get enough of them myself, had to resort to coin bottles. Must have 30-40 in the shop with all kinds of small parts, many more to sort. Also small peanut butter and mayonnaise jars (pint and quart sizes). Hree's one use:

Actually, burn them. There are too many trashpickers around these days. They will save the ones they find in your trash and give or trade them, along with where they found them, to their pillhead friends.

Wife gets her prescriptions from Weiss (local supermarket). Nice thing is their labels peel off without leaving any residue. Quick count showed 56 pill bottles on the garage hardware shelf. (Not counting the "coin" bottles for drill bits). Still don't have enough!

I poke a small hole in the top then coil a bunch of solder around a marker, put it inside with the solder sticking out the hole in the top. Great for tinning because the solder easily sits strait up and down. Then grab the can in your palm with the solder between thumb and index for joints. much lighter and cleaner than grabbing a full roll of solder.

Use M&M mini tubes for quarters. They come in blue, green, red, and maybe yellow. (Not sure on colors right now.) But the small ones hold 12 or so dollars in quarters and the large tubes hold $22.25 or so. Its handy for my pool case as I use a lot of quarters playing.
